Rogue Pictures Presents THE UNBORN Now Playing
This is nearly as sacrilegious as remaking the Wicker Man or Battle Royale. Michael Bay’s (er…re-make) productiion company, Platinum Dunes has the option to remake Kathryn Bigelow’s gritty vampire classic “Near Dark.” Whether or not they decide to bring Lance Henrikson or Bill Paxton on board, or make it a prequel instead of a remake, this idea is bad. There is absolutely nothing wrong with the original here folks. (We should be tired of saying this at this point)
(As an aside, Platinum Dunes has the remake options for The Changeling and The Birds, further proving that apparently nothing is sacred.)

The only thing sacred is the almighty dollar.

Yeah, apparently so. What’s there left to say abut this whole remake retardation?
As long as they keep bringing in the cash, they’ll keep getting made.

Thing is, like most Kathryn Bigelow movies, Near Dark contains alternating great/awful scenes. This one is particular painful to watch, because half the movie needlessly sucks, while the promise of a brilliant vampire movie hangs in the balance. I’d actually love to see an improved script. My real hope is that they cast the right actors, rather than the teen flavor of the hour.
