Another 125 In The Video Player!

Once again, big thanks to everyone who has been busily uploading files into the video player!  Today’s update adds another hundred and twenty five titles into the player, among them a fairly complete Cronenberg library, classic titles from Bruce Lee and Sonny Chiba, some more Miike, some Oshii, a Conan, a Lady Snowblood and loads more!  Get over there and get browsing!

For those keeping score San Ku Kai is currently two files ahead of The Visualist in the upload race to win a copy of the complete second series of Ghost In The Shell, Stand Alone Complex.  And, on another note, while I know it’s not entirely correct it would be greatly appreciated if you were to leave the “The“‘s off the titles when uploading things ... it makes sorting and alphabatizing much easier ...

I sense this is going to come down to the wire...the loser is going to be mighty disappointed given the effort!

man… you’re just too quick uploading these. It takes, at the very least, half an hour for me to rip, edit, encode and upload one trailer here. When I’m done for the day, the gap is magically the same the next morning smile

Oh well, it’s a win-win for the site in any case - wonder if we’ll break 1000 before the race is over…

Will the video player be expanded in the near future? Browsing video’s by alfabet is a pain. It’d be better if you could browse by genre for example. Also, featured video’s would be nice. A system to guide you to interesting video’s.

The archive will also need some cleaning up, I think I saw a few duplicates there already. It would be nice if it could be rigged so that the uploaders could edit the videos afterwards - I’m pretty much uploading trailer with minimum info at the moment, but it could be useful to add the director’s name and the year of the movie to the details.

Also, I take it that the “the"-thing applies to “a” as well? I uploaded a trailer with the format “Scene at the sea, a” and will do so for upcoming ones as well.

M@rc:  the plan is certainly to continue to expand and grow it, right now we’re just trying to get it up and running as smoothly as possible with as solid an archive as possible.  Genre and geographic sorts are certainly something I’d like to do at some point but since the lineups all need to be edited and sorted manually that may be a little while away.  A search function is a high priority as well.

Fabool:  I’m aware of a couple things where videos have been uploaded under multiple titles but considering it’s not our bandwidth I’m not that bothered by it.  I’ve cleaned some up and will get to more eventually.  Swapping “A“‘s to the end seems more a case by case thing ... some films they’re actually pretty integral to the title.  Others not so much.  And, yeah, it’d be nice if people were able to go in and edit but when we were uploading the initial batch of stuff I had it open for the other Twitch writers to do just that and it got REALLY confusing with people approving some things without getting them into the lineups and it just got chaotic really fast.  Once they’re in the player the work flow just makes a LOT more sense and goes a LOT smoother if it’s just one person doing it.  Makes it more time consuming for me but also means things don’t get lost.

Fabool - how are you ripping them?  I’ve only been uploading ones I previously d/l so far.  My ripping program turns them into .vob (huge and not uploadable)—do you have any suggestions for programs to convert to avi/mpg/etc from vob?
