The Simpsons
... Michael Cera.
Edgar (The Hot Fuzz, Shaun of the Dead) Wright’s adaptation of Canadian graphic novels Scott Pilgrim’s Precious Little Life is aiming to start shooting in the fall and The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that the i’s are being dotted and t’s crossed on an agreement to have Superbad and Juno star Michael Cera play the lead. Which means not only did they get a great comic actor for the role but they’ve also hired a Canadian to play a Canadian, which doesn’t happen much and while most people won’t care about that angle it makes me happy.
No final word on where the film will shoot just yet but Wright was in Toronto scouting locations before starting into The Hot Fuzz - word is he’d like to use the actual locations from the book wherever possible - and I haven’t heard anything since to make me think that plan has changed ...
EDIT: Hey guys and gals. There’s no better way to find out why we’re so jazzed about this project than to pick up the source material and read for yourself. Below are links to the four volumes so far… -Mack

Excitement! Joy! Wonder...? Cera was never on my radar as someone that could get casted, but the more I think about it, the more I can see it working in the context of the story. I bet he’ll be more confident then we’ve seen him before, because I can’t see his stuttering wide eyed lost look working here.
All I have to do now is find a way to sneak on set when they hit the Pacific Mall and I’m set.

It’s going to take some time for this to settle in. I had never given any thought to who would play the role of Scott. But, this does give Cera new opportunities to show us something different than his previous personas. I’m just glad the project is moving ahead.

What is the graphic novel about?

A 21 (?) year old jobless Toronto-based slacker starts starts to date a new girlfriend and…
*KINDA SPOILER*’
In the first volume, after 120 pages of realistic enough story where thrown into a massive animated style (Tongue in Cheek O’Course) fight scene and Scott learns he has to defeat his new girlfriends seven evil ex-boyfriends.

23.
It’ll be interesting to see where Wright and Michael Bacall go with the script because the premise of the series was set in volume 1 and 4 only just came out and Scott’s defeated only 4 of the 7 evil ex ‘boyfriends’. Insert Scott’s jealous e-girlfriend Knives Chau and this is going to be wicked either way.
But yeah, Pilgrim fuses that slacker storyline and inserts themes and imagery from manga, video games, music culture. It’s like a perfect bed partner [snicker] for Simon Pegg’s Tim Beasley from SPACED. And that is why Wright is going to be perfect for this project.
If you don’t know the source material I whole heartedly suggest that you hit up Amazon and get them. Sound proof recommendation.
