The Host
It does not, however, get an impressive poster. Gah, that thing’s horrible! But here’s why you should pay attention anyway. Director Venus Keung is best known as a cinematographer, and a damn good one having worked on Seven Swords, One Night in Mongkok, Protege and a host of others. Keung’s in high demand but he’s taken a step away from cinematography to sit in the director’s chair for Bullet and Brain, a new high action gangster picture with an A-list cast of Francis Ng, Anthony Wong and Eric Tsang. Wong Jing is producing, which doesn’t inspire much confidence these days, but the man has a fistful of solid films on the resume along with all the cheap pulp and, frankly, Ng, Wong and Tsang don’t make crap so I’d expect this to be one of Wong’s good ones even without the trailer. Speaking of which, it’s hosted at Sina which means it’s grainy as is humanly possible and loads slowly but there’s some great stuff in there. Like rocket launchers.
Bullet and Brain releases in mainland China October 19th.
