Adrift in Tokyo
We’ve written rather a lot about upcoming action comedy JCVD in recent months, most of it commenting on star Jean Claude Van Damme’s willingness to skewer his own personal life and public persona on screen. Sure, we’ve commented a bit on how good the thing looks from time but I never appreciated just how good director Mabrouk El Mechri really is until just now. Why? Well, I’ve just come across something labeled as a behind the scenes reel from the film that is actually a very long, single take shot lifted straight from the dailies. Not only is it fantastically well shot but check out the degree of organization and choreography in this thing, the camera practically dances through the scene. Incredible stuff. You’ll find the scene and the trailers in the Twitch Player below the break.

Quite a bit of that is in the trailer, but I had no idea it was all from one shot. Daaaaaaamn. Any word at all on any North American release for this? Someone HAS to put this out.

This looks too good not to get some kind of arthouse theatrical release. Come on, put JCVD back on top where he belongs!
Yes, I’m dying to see this.

Cheers. I was passingly intrigued by this before, but now I’m very interested. Look at the way the camera so naturally, not jarringly, jumps to follow him up, and then down, when he knocks on the door. Etc etc.
Very nice indeed.

Looks pretty damn interesting, but how could any movie of his stand up against Lionheart or Legionnaire?

What about KNOCK OFF? Holy crap that movie’s amazing - Van Damme and Rob Schneider battling to stop a shipment of counterfeit jeans laced with explosives? It gets no better than that.

My pants are always threatening to explode.
Thank you. Thank you.

Damn that looks awesome. It’s always great when stars make fun of themselves.

Knock Off is surely my 2nd fave Tsui Hark movie out there...MY POOMAZ.
Not sure I’d rol around the aisles with JCVD but it’s on my see list.

JCVD—what does that stand for? Oh, wait… I get it.
PhoneyB 04/04/2008 @ 10:01am
Lets not forget DOUBLE TEAM! How is it Tsui Hark was never able to break into Hollywood? John Woo seemed to do ok in spite of HARD TARGET.

“John Woo seemed to do OK in spite of HARD TARGET”
In spite of HARD TARGET? HARD TARGET was awesome.
