[I’m bumping this post up to the top of the stack just because it’s too good to get lost in the shuffle and it’s been a remarkably busy day already ... give the monkey some love ...]

We have been outspoken fans of Korean animator Gap Kim and Studio Flying in these parts.  For our money Studio Flying is the best thing going in Korean animation right now, combining the talents of some truly cutting edge artists with a sense of style and zany energy that is second to none.  An example?  Studio Flying is the outfit responsible for festival hit Aachi and Ssipak and the sample reels they had posted on the previous version of their website were simply fantastic, every last one of them.

Up next for the studio and director Gap Kim is the martial arts fantasy Mad Monkey.  The project is being set up as a three episode OVA - a straight to video release - that may well be cut together into a theatrical feature and with the first episode done the producers have passed us a four minute music video composed entirely of previously unseen footage from the project.  And it’s looking really, really good.  The Aachi and Ssipak touch is evident in places and I think it’s fair to say that fans of Kemonozume will be all over this as well, but this has entirely its own feel.  Watch out for Gap Kim people, he’s a huge talent just coming into his own ...

You’ll find the video in the Twitch Player embedded below the break.

The animation looks pretty interesting. The thing that really caught my attention was the cool chill out/lounge music that was playing throughout trailer.

Wow. This one’s not for the kiddies,is it?!  : )

Aside from all the whore house antics, this looks really cool. Very trippy too. They must be burning some very ‘special’ kind of fires over in Studio Flying!

Bit drunk and was going to skip watching this, but you mentioned Kemonozume, so I had to take a look. Despite the almost-too-close resemblence to the aforementioned at times, this looks to be, as you say, it’s own beast. And a beast that makes me want to watch it right away, at that.
With new stuff from Plympton and Kon on the horizon, too, this has indeed been a very animated day!

Sold.  This looks great.  It goes without saying that this won’t be coming out in America, so I hope there’s English subs on the Korean OVAs.

    Those are quality whorehouse antics.

Reminds me of the style of Mindgame and those masterpieces. Going to have to check this out.
