Out Of The Past
Three powerhouses of Latin filmmaking have brokered a five-picture deal with Universal Films and Focus Features International.
Alfonso Cuaron [Children of Men], Guillermo del Toro [Hellboy and Pan’s Labyrinth] and Alejandro Gonzalez Inarritu [Babel] created the project called Cha Cha Cha valued at $100 million. Each director will make a film of their own. The other two films will be helmed by Colombian director Rodrigo Garcia and Carlos Cuaron, Alfonso’s brother. Carlos Cuaron’s soccer comedy/drama Rudo y Cursi has already been announced. Universal will share ownership of the films with the three directors. Focus Features International will handle international sales and Universal will handle domestic. More titles will be announced in the coming months.
