2007 AMERICAN FILM MARKET: TLA RELEASING ACQUIRES BOYSTOWN
Spanish comedy CHUECATOWN, will be released with English title BOYSTOWN
(Philadelphia, PA/London UK, November 2, 2007) TLA Releasing has acquired all non-theatrical, theatrical, home video, television and VOD entertainment rights for North America and United Kingdom for BOYSTOWN (Chuecatown) (Spain, 2007),directed by Juan Flahn. The film will be released in late 2008 through the TLA Releasing label.
TLA acquired the film from Barcelona-based sales company Filmax Entertainment, presided by Julio Fernandez. Filmax was represented by Head of International Division Sales, Vicente Canales; TLA Releasing was represented by Vice President of Acquisitions Jennifer Arndt-Johns. The deal was finalized at the 2007 American Film Market (AFM).
“BOYSTOWN (Chuecatown) is a vibrant comedy which continues to show Spain’s diversity and acceptance of all lifestyles.” said TLA Releasing’s Jennifer Arndt-Johns. “The film is pure, comic entertainment filled with sharp dialogue, energetic performances and a playful sense of fun, making it a guaranteed audience pleaser.”
In BOYSTOWN (Chuecatown), Victor (Pablo Puyol of 20 Centimeters) is a real estate agent in the quickly gentrifying neighborhood of Chueca in Madrid. But he hides a terrible secret; his apartments become available for sale when he murders the elderly women owners and disguises them as “suicides.” Then Victor quickly refurbishes the apartments to upwardly-mobile gay couples because his ultimate goal is to transform the neighborhood into a hip “gayborhood” like the Castro in San Francisco and Chelsea in New York.
The latest victim’s apartment is next door to gay couple Ray (Carlos Fuentes of Kilometer Zero) and Leo (Pepón Nieto of Bulgarian Lovers) who eventually inherit the apartment and offer it as a gift to Ray’s mother Antonia (Concha Velasco of Kilometer Zero). But Victor only wants high income gays to move in and he begins a plot to remove Antonia from the premises. Toss in the eccentric Inspector Mila (Rosa Maria Sardà of All About My Mother) and her charmingly clueless son Luis, assigned to investigate the murders, and soon the neighborhood of Chueca is brimming with comic mishaps, sexy seductions and more murders!
“We are proud to be working with TLA Releasing in the USA and the UK. This is an entertaining and friendly comedy, we are confident that the audience will enjoy it” said Vicente Canales of Filmax Entertainment.
