Rogue Pictures Presents THE UNBORN Now Playing
Add another to the Remake pile. Black Christmas starts Shooting in January 2006

The Weinstein’s Dimension Pictures have picked up the distribution rights for a remake of the semi-obscure Canadian prototype slasher flick (featuring a young, pre-SCTV Andrea Martin) made way back in 1974. Yes folks, blame Canada for the 80’s slasher trend, as the original provided somewhat of an early template for John Carpenter and Wes Craven to exploit for their 1980s Horror Franchises. There has been a script in development for this since spring this year. It seems that the Final Destination team have been working on this one, which has a tentative release date of the 2006 holiday season. If well done, it will be a nice little bit of counter-programming to the usual Holiday Oscar fare.
Commence complaining about the deluge of horror remakes in 5…4…3…2…, but consider this, a remake may just bring a little more attention to the far-too-underseen original.

I don’t know if they’ll get made (not yet on imdb), but I’ve seen scripts for remakes of SPIDER-BABY and WIZARD OF GORE floating around too.

i feel like bob clark might be involved in his own remake for black christmas. he is remaking Children shouldn’t play with dead things, so i think he at least is helping out with scriptwork.
if they remake spider-baby i’ll have to kill someone though.
