A Trio of Clips From Neil Marshall’s DOOMSDAY!

We somehow failed to notice when the first two of these popped up last week but a third clip from Neil Marshall’s upcoming post-apocalyptic action flick Doomsday has just arrived online and we’re making up the oversight of the first two by hosting all three in the Twitch Player below the break.

The verdict?  Anyone who has ever lamented the fact nobody makes films like the Mad Max and Escape films of yore should be singing Marshall’s praises right about now.  These clips look to be a note perfect recreation of exactly that style - stylish, bleak, and very violent.  That said, these also look so completely out of step with current times and tastes that the younger crowd is probably going to come away a little bit bewildered by the style of the thing.  I, for one, can’t wait.

You’ll find all three below the break, but be aware of your surroundings.  While not incredibly extreme by many standards the violence and breast/shotgun combination push these on to the far side of the Not Work Safe spectrum.

Well one thing’s for sure, Neil Marshall sure knows how to kill people. He could get better extras though. Still my most anticipated movie of the year despite the obvious flaws.

It looks like a nicely shot film but did he have to steal so directly from ALIENS. Especially in that second clip it’s an almost shot for shot replay of the end part of the first alien attack, right down to the armored vehicle running over someone. Then in the third clip there is a lot of that sequence when they were trapped in the room with the aliens coming out of the ceiling. It looks like a good , violent film but it’s really hard to praise the action when it directly ripped off from other famous scenes.

What I mean is not only is the action copied instead of original stuff dreamed up but instead of getting me into the film, it took me right out because all I could think was ” hey I’ve seen that before, that’s right out of ALIENS.” And judging by the trailer it looks like the rest of the film has direct steals from ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK and then ROAD WARRIOR. Homage is one thing but directly copying sequences shot for shot instead of coming up with your own action is another.I want to be blown away by something new, not reminded of scenes I’ve already seen in other movies.

    Looks utterly craptastic to me.

hej, those straight copies made tarantino famous !
they are the reason I’m looking forward to this movie and to be honest when I first saw the trailer beginning with Virus/outbreak/containment/on a mission and Mr.Voice I thought: what a crap.
but when it switched to MadMax/EscapeFromScotland with funny punks and oneliners I KNEW: what an AWESOME crap.
exactly my feelings for good ol’ carpenter.
(although TFAW is a real movie and good)
