I’m not sure how I’ve overlooked this one so far considering that it’s directed by Alfonso Cuaron and stars the always reliable duo of Clive Owen and Julianne Moore but regular Twitch reader LT has just steered me to the trailer for the Y Tu Mama Tambien director’s latest. The trailer descends into gloopy senitmentality at the end and Michael Caine looks woefully out of place - and when he’s bad, he’s horrible - but the central concept of a world devastated by mass infertility of women is fantastic and Owen looks pretty much note-perfect.

This looks amazing but i hated the music in the second half of the trailer. It freaks me out that Hollywood destroys so many trailers because of wrong music choices!

I’m waiting for this one since the early reviews on aicn and the trailer looks amazing. But i hated the music in the second half of the trailer. It freaks me out that Hollywood destroys so many trailers because of wrong music choices!

It was probably the wrong song choice, but it’s Sigur Ros which is cool in itself!

Love it! Does this mean more big-budget quasi-apocalyptic movies on the horizon?

Looks very good. The only thing in the trailer that looked out of place was the Harry Potter thing. Not the same audience I think.
But hearing my friends song in the trailer is always nice plus I felt it fitted pretty well.

Whoa....I want to watch this movie. It’s got a lot of potential.

Cuaron is one exceedingly gifted filmmaker, a rare breed who has managed to shoot superb films both in his native Mexico as well as in Hollywood. While I haven’t watched any of the Harry Potter series, I confess to having loved “A Little Princess” (1995), and “Y Tu Mama Tambien” was my favorite film of 2001. Apparently, the young director already has two or three more projects in the works for 2007: “The Memory of Running” (2007) (announced),

“The History of Love” (2007) (announced), and “México ‘68” (2007) (pre-production).

I can only think of one word - senitmental. Oh wait long & most likely boring as well. Too bad, Clive Owen rocks!

  9. Voronwe 08/02/2006 @ 11:52am

Anyone know the music in the first part of the trailer (=! Thx!!

  10. sumrtym 08/04/2006 @ 4:08am

Anyone who thinks it looks “long” and “boring as hell” is someone who thinks a great movie is explosion after explosion rather than one that makes you think.

  11. chris 08/20/2006 @ 10:24pm

in the first half it was the intro of “Gimme Shelter” by the Rolling Stones

I’m desperate to get hold of the gimme shelter strings version - where can I get it???

  23. k. 01/21/2007 @ 12:48am

    Chris-
In case you haven’t found it yet, the song is on an ablum called “Symphonic Music of the Rolling Stones.” Amazon has a page for it but doesn’t currently carry the album, but there are a few on ebay with really low starting prices. I just bid on one of them, i just saw the trailer for the first time tonight and thought the song sounded incredible. gimme shelter is my favorite stones song. hopefully you can get a copy!

  24. crazy g 06/06/2007 @ 4:48pm

whoever said the music is a bad choice is isane, the rolling stone gimme shelter intro to make it dramatic and gloomy in the beginning and then a hope filled uplifting song after they find a pregnant woman
