The Sun Also Rises
Though you might not think of China as a big hip-hop nation the musical style is on the rise there in a big way. Big enough that it’s actually being co-opted into the upcoming feature film Kung Fu Hip Hop, though the kung-fu’ing of everything possible in Hong Kong films is a topic for another day. If you want the real stuff, however, may I humbly suggest Duncan Jepson’s documentary Follow Your Heart. The film just took a bow in the UK’s Tiger Festival and gives a pretty compelling look at the fledgling scene and the artists and fans that drive it. We’ve got an extended trailer for the film in the Twitch Player below the break.

Awesome. Seriously awesome. Will look nice on the shelf next to the underrated LMF doc DARE YA! and the current PLANET B-BOY.

This looks really interesting. I’d also recommend “Inside The Circle” for a good recent documentary about the b-boying scene in Texas.

Very nice… I am more aware of Hong Kong’s hip hop scene, but it seems like the mainland, with its large lower class, has been able to nurture a type of counterculture, an underground society of a scale that a rich area like Hong Kong does not have. This can become fuel for artistic expression, if China continues to open up.
I liked the LMF doc too, and I am looking forward to this. Please keep us updated!
