[I’m actually taking a few days vacation in New York right now but this just crossed the desk and I couldn’t resist posting it up ...]

Though Dennis Law is likely still best known for his work as a producer, his most notable recent work being Johnnie To’s Election films, but he is also making it his mission to bring back the hard edged Hong Kong martial arts film as a director.  Law gave the incredibly talented Wu Jing his first true leading role in Fatal Contact and is now again using Wu as part of a stellar ensemble cast - that also includes Simon Yam, Sammo Hung and Lam Suet - for his new martial arts action picture Fatal Move.  We’ve been tracking this one for a while now, the making of videos and early stills looked promising and everyone involved is promising a gritty, violent piece of work.  All that’s been missing so far is a trailer but that has now arrived and looks excellent.  The version of the official site loads very slowly and has some serious buffering problems and so we’ve added it to the Twitch Player for your viewing pleasure. You’ll find the trailer below the break along with the Making Of video.  We’ve also been passed a trio of stills from the film, one of which also appears on the official site but the other two are new to us.

I expect the movie will be decent, and probably an improvement over the rather dreary Fatal Contact, but they should clean up all the wires in the footage before releasing the trailer!  Releasing footage that hasn’t been through post is one thing, but the clear shots of wires look unprofessional outside a “making of”.  I have a pretty good capacity for overlooking obvious use of wires, but now I’ll never be able to see those scenes without the use of wires foremost in my mind.

Let’s hope the ending isn’t so fucking terrible it retroactively kills all enjoyment of the film the way Fatal Contact’s was.

Am I the only one having flashbacks to Yuen Biao with Jing’s haircut in those shots? He’s no Ekin Cheng, but who is?

This better be good, with that cast, how could you possibly go wrong?

I’m excited to see Sammo, and look forward to the action between Sammo and Wu Jing.
