A Second Trailer For Tony Ching’s AN EMPRESS AND THE WARRIORS With Donnie Yen!

Now this is just looking better and better.  While it seems kind of silly to say that I miss the big martial arts epics of old, what with every big art film director and his brother making big martial arts epics these days, the current crop just have a very different feel from the old style epics.  Yes, I love the new ones, too, but they’re a very different animal from the old style films and I can’t help but wax nostalgic from time to time.  And apparently Tony Ching misses them, too.  A behind the scenes legend for literally decades, Ching has been one of Hong Kong’s top fight choreographers for a long, long time, gaining widespread notice here in the west for his involvement in Zhang Yimou’s Hero and House of Flying Daggers.  and after his stint in support of one of those big art film directors making two of the leading new school wuxia epics - not to mention a pay day working on Uwe Boll’s In The Name Of The King - Ching is now taking the director’s chair for his own film.

The film is titled An Empress And The Warriors and looks to be very much more in line with the old classics.  Donnie Yen is in the lead and, frankly, it feels good to see Yen working with someone else’s choreography just to add a bit of variety to the ol’ repertoire.  The original trailer was impressive enough but a second has just been released and it features a good bit more martial arts action.  Yes, please.  You’ll find both embedded in the Twitch Play below the break.
