Neon Genesis Evangelion
The rest of the world could learna thing or two about how to cut a trailer from Japan. While I personally found the film a little lacking on the story level there’s a new Japanese theatrical trailer for Soi Cheang’s Hong Kong - Japan co-produced adaptation of the ultra-violent manga Shamo and as trailers go this thing kicks every bit as much ass as does Shawn Yue as the film’s title character. Cheang creates a world that’s as stylish as it is gritty here and this new trailer gets that across beautifully while also neatly balancing story elements - Yue plays a young man hardened by a stint in jail after killing his parents, emerging as a would be pit fighting champion - with the raw fight action fans want. It’s a very tasty minute and a half. You’ll find the new trailer - along with the old ones - in the Twitch Player below the break.

I can’t watch the trailer because I am on a crappy comp right here, takes too long, but is it Ichi The Killer’ish in terms of violence?

No, I don’t think it can compare to that. It’s probably closer to DOG BITE DOG, meaning the fights will be brutal and realistic but without any over the top gore which, to be honest, only takes away from the impact.
I know Japan is superior but I’m still a bit baffled by the rating. Yeah, they have little problems with this kind of martial arts violence but wasn’t there supposed to be gay gang rape scene in this?

The violence in Shamo is much more realistic than Ichi. No pools of semen, nipples being sliced off, etc etc. It’s people getting the hell pounded out of them with fists and feet.
And, yeah, Caterpillar ... I’m pretty surprised by that rating as well.
