Samurai 7
You can call it “13 Beloved” or “13 Game of Death” or its real title “13 Game Sayawng”, but Chukiat Sakveerakul’s clever thriller is a big favorite over here at Twitch. And until recently the only chance to see this for most of us was through the Singaporian DVD.
But that is about to change.
Dimension Extreme will be releasing their (region 1) US DVD on March the 18th and while I am not fond of the cover they’ve designed I do like the details they’ve published:
Anamorphic widescreen, Thai 5.1 soundtrack with removable English or Spanish subtitles.
Extras include a “making of” documentary, the teaser and the trailer, and the price is no rip-off either.
Yummie!
March looks to be an increasingly expensive month for me…

I noticed this awhile back, but wasn’t clued in on the extra features. Presumably the making-of is English friendly, which gives this release an edge over Innoform’s Singapore version.

I’m glad to see this getting a release for the North American market, and not being buried by the Weinsteins. Still, I’m not too keen about the cover art - to much pandering to the Hostel/Saw gorehound crowd, and the film isn’t about that all.

I’m looking forward to finally seeing this thing. It’s been one of those titles that just slipped through the cracks.

Looking foward to picking this up. Sure beats watching it on YouTube and/or other sites.
There are some quality releases on the Weinsteins “dimension extreme” line. Although, one would wish to see some of them released proper on the big screen.
Next week Inside has a short festival run in NYC through the Film Society of Lincoln Center.
Completely agree about the “dimension extreme” covers lacking taste and pandering to the lowest common denominator.

Pandering to the lowest common denominator is what the Weinsteins think they do best. It isn’t actually what they do best (their chief strength being a generally sharp eye for acquisitions), but it’s what they think they do best.

Good that the film is getting some life over here, a chance for many to see it before the innevitable dumbed down remake. I still think the ending prevents this from being way better, but everything up to that point is almost pure genius.
