Twitch-O-Meter

As suggested by air* in the comments section of my main site article “Twitch-O-Meter: Confessions of an Anime Neophyte,” feel free to discuss anything anime-related in this thread: news, what you’ve been watching lately, etc. I’m especially interested about newer series, but discussions about favorites from the past are certainly welcome.

Dig in!

Have anyone heard that Batman will get the anime treatment, just as The Matrix had the Animatrix?  As with the Animatix, its a PG-13 anthology project presenting short stories that takes place between the first film and the sequel.

For sure, this is on my “Keep-a-look-out-for” list.  I’m a big fan of the animated Batman series but I thought the minimalistic animation style was not to me liking. I would to see how other studios will interpret the look of Batman.  It would be great to still have Bruce Timm onboard too for this project.

As far as currently airing subs, here’s my watchlist:
Dennou Coil
Lucky Star
Sayonara Zetsubou Sensei
Higurashi No Naku Koro Ni KAI
Darker Than Black
Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha StrikerS
Bleach

I’ll work discussing my old favorites into here later!

One thing of note about Coil, apparently it’s been in production for over 10 years. No wonder the art quality is so phenomenal. I’m also very much looking forward to seeing 5 centimeters per second at AFFD, and I just can’t get enough of Shinkai Makoto’s amazing art. I strongly recommend his other work: Voices of a Distant Star, and The Place Promised in Our Early Days. Asides art, familiar seiyuu and staff are also major factors that go into what anime series I decide to watch.

edit: Can’t forget to mention something else I’m also definitely looking forward to… I’m planning on rewatching Evangelion’s Renewal rips before this new movie is out.

Just in case it hasn’t been mentioned, I also loved Witch Hunter Robin (26 episodes).

I’m currently going through, and enjoying, The Melancholy Of Haruhi Suzumiya and Noein.  Earlier this summer, I went through Haibane Renmei for the third time, and it’s still one of my favorites.

Looking forward to seeing Vexille, Ghost In The Shell: Solid State Society, the new Shinkai film, and I’m intrigued by Dennou Coil.  And being the sucker that I am, I’ll be checking out all of the upcoming Evangelion releases.

Ah! Nearly thought me and my wife were the only ones!
I’m planning on buying the soundtrack too.

I know several folks who really enjoy Haibane Renmei.  The soundtrack is really good… here’s my review.

AlLo ALLo

Ive been watching somewhat older stuf recently as I forge my way into this genre, in the past couple weeks Ive watched Samurai Champloo, Blood+, and Cowboy Bebop, and Im totally digging all of it, about to start Death Note and Devil May Cry.

Now I know it’s not “anime” but has anyone else seen the new animated Doctor Strange? can you say BAD ASS!?!!! I loved it, these animated Marvel flicks are pretty fucking sweet. Next on the list is the new Chronicles animated film w00t w00t!
