I must say that I’m the amoung worlds least supporters of the Resident Evil Films.  There is nothing in there, even a mid-air dog kick that was not boring me to tears.  I’m not a fan of Paul Anderson (although much of Event Horizon is a guilty pleasure).

All that being said, he is not directing RE:3, that duty falls to Russell Mulcahy who hasn’t made any sort of genre film mark since The Highlander (OK, Ricochet is a minor guilty pleasure).  The first trailer was cliche ridden to hell, but I dug the sandy colour palette and glossy Vegas meets the Road Warrior vibe.

It looks like despite some extreme excess indulging going on in places, and shots and ideas cribbed from many other films, but all that being said - Zombies in the Desert, Serious Road Convoy Action, and a scene with bats that is somewhere between The Day Watch and Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas.  There may be more than a few things to love in Resident Evil 3.  I can’t believe I"m typing this, but I may just head out to the theatre for this one.

Check out this excessive but fun RED BAND Trailer - http://flash.sonypictures.com/video/movies/residentevilextinction/site/library/redband/redband_high.swf

At least any film of his, no matter HOW crappy, will contain a couple of beautiful shots.

EDIT:
OK, now that I’ve seen this trailer, it sure looks like a huge improvement over the first two. This might actually be one of the best trailers I’ve seen this year…

I read the screenplay months ago and it ends on a bum note - all the while reading as clumsy as the last one. That’s on paper of course but I wasn’t swamped by must-see madness when I saw that trailer on Saturday...however Albert Wesker’s in it! Yeah I suppose that still doesn’t make me want to see it that much.

Yeah, I’ll be there for this one too.  I enjoyed the first film - nice visuals, excellent sound design, goofy fun.  Saw about half of the second one and couldn’t take any more.

I love Mulcahy - Razorback is a personal favorite.  Here’s hoping this is fun.

RE series related, the Wii incarnation of RE4 kicks all sorts of ass.  Waaay too much.  Capcom should’ve made a lightgun version of RE years ago…

My uncle was working on the CGI for this.
But I look forward to see this. I enjoyed the first one, the second was a piece of shit but this looks like fun. Too bad they’ve traveled so far from the original story.
And I agree with RE4 on the Wii.

Yeah, I’mprobably there.

i actually consider part one a guilty pleasure.  I love zombie flicks… no matter what the quality… and if this is as epic as it looks… oh yeah.

For the record, like part 1 quite a bit, hate part two.  i love the laser hallway scene.  Plus I’m a sucker for latin women (i.e. Michelle Rodriguez).

Have to agree with you there about Michelle Rodriguez. I find her extremely hot even with her rather butch looks. Sadly she prefers to lay carped rather than pipe. But that shouldn’t come as a surprise with her tomboyish look.

Never much cared for the first one at all (not like the game, low gore) but liked the 2nd a lot (More like the games, more action) and I thought it improved the first when watched back to back....And this looks like a lot of fun too.

We could certainly end the saga now though and I hope they put a satisfactory ending on it.
