I know there are a couple of Texans who read this, so I’ll keep up to date as much as possible, here is the thread on the old board:

AFFD

They posted a schedule and I’m interested to see a lot of them I have to work my schedule out, not as high profile as last year IMO, but still some good stuff it looks like.

Especially interesting to me are Hana (Which I’ve ordered the DVD for, but will wait till after the screening to watch it for full effect), the documentary Bolinao 52 about Vietnamese boat people (an interesting companion to last year’s Journey From The Fall), Tazza, Taste Of Tea, Love and Honour, Hula Girls, and Heavenly Kings.  I hope to discover some sleepers though.

The festival’s website is http://www.affd.org

I’ve just been made aware that I may not be able to afford the VIP pass, but I’ll still try to see as many as I can manage.

Tazza was a HUGE disappointment for me, all gloss and utterly empty.  A TASTE OF TEA is a fab audience film (as it has been often mentioned around these parts!)

Hana is a warm and satisfying film (Although I’m not as big a fan of it as some around these parts).

Isabella isn’t really a sleeper at all but it should certainly come off well on the big screen. Ghost Train on the other hand is worth hiding from at all costs!

Cats of Mirikitani” nearly won this years’ IFF Rotterdam audience award, but was just(ly?) beaten by “The Lives of Others”.

Apparently it’s a stunning documentary about an old Japanese man in New York, who paints cats. The director always considered him as a standard part of the background, always seeing him on the streets selling paintings of cats to tourists, until 9/11 hits.
By coincidence the two meet, one needs to take care of the other and when the old guy finally opens up about his past in the US the most unbelievable stories come out, some of which have direct repercussions in the Present.

This was a huge crowdpleaser, easily the best film I missed at the festival (judging by what other people tell me, of course).

Wow zombeaner I think you have to be the biggest fan of AFFD out there. I just got their press release this morning on the news of the full schedule before posting about it. Now that I see your post here I’ve gone back and updated it with a link to your forum post.

Dorm is the one film I’ve seen of all these that I recommend the highest. Glad they are also doing the advanced screening thing so I can see it more than once.

I look forward to seeing Tazza again. It certainly benefited from the GIANT Udine movie theatre. The section between the middle of the film to the end didn’t really work for me but the rest of the film did.

I can be kind of a nerd about these things, but coming from the world I do, I like to promote local events in any way I can.  I have no affiliation to AFFD, but last year I had a great time and I’d like to see ti grow so I can see better and more movies every year.  I happened to check the page last night after they’d uploaded the schedule.

I’m really happy about events like AFFD and AFI being in Dallas. I’m also really excited about this year’s AFFD, especially because of 5 cm. It got licensed by ADV before any fansubbers put some serious work into it, so I didn’t expect to be able to watch it until it was out on DVD. Seeing it on a big screen will be a treat!
