Sleaze - July 31, 2007, 9:56am Some of my favourite “cult” trailers knocking around on You Tube:
I really LOVE this trailer of Matalo! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xrRLrJb01T8
It’s a recent find and it might be via a post on this (the old) forum, I forgot
but it’s a beauty anyway

Edgar Wright has a little fun with the Superbad kids. Probably staged, but there is some great acting on display by all parties.

Making a quirky Indie film in the vein of Bottle Rocket, Thumbsucker or Napoleon Dynamite? This short video is a lesson in low-tech but catchy opening credits.
I’m surprised nobody has done this kinda thing before (if someone has, please enlighten me, I’m an opening credit aesthetic nut). Closest thing I cant think of is one of the trailers to Guy Ritchie’s “Snatch” which was done as a rambling slide show (great trailer, that).
Anyway the video is a tutorial on Wiki’s, ignore the content, focus on just how catchy this presentation style is.

Follow up. The heavier kid gives an incredibly shitty interview with the NY Times (who askes questions worthy of Edgar Wright’s mocking!)

its YouTube-y and it’s the best!
There are a few thing I check for on you tube every once in a while since it became the best place to find obscure treasures from the past (not in the best quality sadly) and the Sidi Bou Said musicvideo for Twilight Eyes is, or I should now say was, on the top of that list. Last time I had seen this was 1993. It’s exactly as I remember! and the song also still rocks ofcourse. Check it out.

Not Youtube, but I noticed that the usually-full-of-nothing Joost has a collection of Royston Tan shorts (and others), such as the mesmerizing Sons, on Movieola short film channel. The quality isn’t the best but beats Youtube at least, - and hey, it’s free.

When is wong kar wai going to make a feature film with Clive Owen. He’s done two commercials now, first was the fabulous BMW short (which also featured Mickey Rourke and Forrest Whitaker), and below linked is a Lancome ad, it’s brief, but fully carries that wkw vibe.

Whoa! Inland Fragrance! If you can’t tell within 5 seconds that David Lynch directed this Gucci advertisment, well then you haven’t been watching his films.
Lushly decorated warm-toned rooms, changing identies, overlaping exposures and zooming shots across town. it’s like an adrenaline shot of Lynch’s visual style.
Weird that he is shilling for a perfume/fashion company, but then someone has to finance all that Coffee adn Quinoa.

This is hillarious stuff. Some genius has re recorded songs and guitar solos, very badly and then put them under actual guitar heroes with some snazy editing skills.
Damn funny stuff.

His Darth Vader video is funny as well.

This one is far from new but I watched it again recently with some “Halo” fans and it certainly made THEIR jaws drop!
This is a hilarious one-man-and-his-PC effort to create a very funny what-if movie, about Samus from the “Metroid” games accidentally getting into one of “Halo’s” fights.
Hats off for the effort involved, and I guess no-one will guess beforehand the absolutely crazy ending this film has.
Here it is: Haloid
And keep watching through the end credits, when creator Monty Oum starts having some REAL fun with the idea and hops over into slightly LSFW mode…

Hilarious AND film-related:
This clip is an ode to the famous “Wilhelm-scream”, a sound effect that has been used in movies since the fifties whenever someone topples from a balcony or finds himself in a similar situation.
It’s become a running gag amongst sound technicians to try and include at least one Wilhelm in every movie, and here is the proof:
Wilhelm (click on the movie to start it)
Shit. Now I can’t stop noticing it in other movies as well…
