Has anyone seen the 2-disc region 2 DVD of Jaume Balaguero & Paco Plaza’s [Rec]?

Are the deleted scenes good?

I am considering getting the single disc edition (region 2/PAL) but I want to know if I should hold out for a US release which, hopefully, will include all the features (with subtitles of course!) that are included on the 2-disc region 2 edition.

Of course, I could be waiting a while.

They are going to wait until the US remake (QUARANTINE) comes out in OCTOBER (!) before they release [REC] stateside and even THEN we might have to wait for the QUARANTINE DVDate before we get a US DVD of [REC].

And even then the US disc of [REC] might have practically NO special features and then I’ll be kicking myself for (once again) being fooled by US distribution companies / studios that like to screw with American genre fans (as so many of them do…).

Anyhow, any advice as to how to proceed would be greatly appreciated…

From what I’ve read [REC] is something one should NOT wait for.
And I LOVED Plaza’s ROMASANTA and his CHRISTMAS TALE segment of SIX FILMS TO KEEP YOU AWAKE and I loved Jaume Balaguero’s TO LET segment of SIX FILMS and his flick THE FRAGILE (yeah, I liked it! Whatever…)

This is on its way to me - will let you know when it arrives and I have a chance to check it out.  I wouldn’t count on all the special features being ported for the US release - purely speculation on my part, but in the past films released in their original territories in lavish special editions tend to get the shaft when they drop in the US.  The film, regardless of the special features, is definitely worth seeing ASAP.  One of the best pure, unpretentious horror movies in recent memory IMO!

It’s a delight from start to finish, and some of the tidbids Blake dropped about his interview with one of the directors makes me want to rewatch it immediately. Behiond-the-scenes pictures I’ve seen seem to imply the girl at the end (if you’ve seen the movie you KNOW who I’m talking about) is actually played by a very thin actress and not a special effect?

Brrrrrrrrrr…..

So, Collin, where/how did you order this?

Through Xploited, which Swarez is (rightfully) eulogizing on the main site -  http://twitchfilm.net/site/view/cult-importer-xploited-cinema-slowly-fading-in-to-oblivion

That’s f-ing crazy if that’s really an actor/ess in the end sequence - tho I guess it’s pretty crazy if it’s a puppet or CGI, too!

While the Spanish set is in a pretty digipak, the UK edition is also 2 discs and appears to have quite a lot of extras as well.  Comes out on 8/11, I think I’ll pick that one up.

Dude, any edition is worth it to get this movie.

While I won’t say it’s a masterpiece or a 5/5 flick, I do think it’s one hell of a scare fest and great to unleash on your friend or girlfriend one rainy night.

Hell, after the lights went up on this one, several japanese high school girls were shaking and crying profusely.
Nice.

In regards to the thin actress, yeah…I’d buy that.
The camera movement and framing style could not have been achieved by a puppet.
Although, it was dark and no colour…so maybe CG?
For sure, some part of the actress was altered but in fear of spoiling it for others, I won’t say what.

I wonder what Rec 2 will be like…I’m very pleased to see they just wanna do a straight sequel, no stupid prequels or alternate takes or the like.

Someone reviewed that Spanish edition (can’t find it, crap!) and from the extras they posted some photo’s. One of them showed the two directors giving instructions to this woman, who seriously looks like a walking skeleton.
Then again, I recall that guy from the “Come to Daddy” videoclip of Aphex Twin.
People who are that thin apparently really exist!

Just arrived!  Will post some thoughts in the next few days after I slog through it.

zombeaner has the right idea about waiting for the UK release - probably a lot of the same stuff, subbed.  That said, I have all of Balaguero’s films in their original Spanish releases, so I had to keep the streak alive.  He’s one of my fave contempo horror directors - and I like FRAGILE quite a bit too!

To answer the original question: Yes, the deleted scenes are worth watching, but I would have liked some explanation for them. A hallway full of nails? A cupboard full of dead children?
Huh???
In other news, the skeletal figure is indeed a freakishly thin actor (male, funnily enough with a beard which is hidden by the make-up).
