Well, we have those randomized ads on the site which are pulled from the net by our ads-provider. Sometimes an advertisement is wonky or something is wrong with that ad’s server instead of our own.
That’s also why a simple stop and refresh often helps: the randomizer picks different ads and the page will load flawlessly. It’s not something which we can easily control but it shouldn’t happen too often, or go on for too long once it does happen. Online-advertisement is quite Darwinesque in its weeding-out of bad ads…
Well said. Online advertising is oftentimes a double-edged sword. On the one hand, it’s nice to have someone else manage and host the ads, because it’s one less headache for us. On the other hand, anytime you’re using a third party to manage some portion of your website, that becomes a liability. If their servers are down, or are running bit slow, that will likely have an adverse effect on Twitch’s performance.
Now, in all honesty, that doesn’t happen all too often—if it did, we’d be making some adjustments real quick—but it does happen.
