One of my priced possesions in VHS are a few of Jorg Buttergeit’s films, the original releases with the JB logo that they got into trouble with regarding Warner Bros.

I’ve got this one
As you can see from the videotheek sticker on the backside this once belonged to that famous “cult videotheek” I keep talking about (Quentin Tarantino rented tapes there when he lived in Amsterdam! )
They came into serious financial problems at one point in time. Maybe due to the explosive growth of the Moviecenter chain that soon gathered an even better (or at least bigger) selection of imported genre cinema than Cult (minus a few underground and experimental tapes that remained unique to the Cult Videotheek collection). And they opened up their collection to buyers. Any tape you wanted (minus a few ultra rare ones they had put aside; like Viva La Muerte, I asked for it ) from the shelves for 50 guilders. A lot of money I thought, but I still bought a few tapes that I thought would be collectable.
It stands for “Not Safe For Work” and its a warning that a post or a thread contains images of nudity or gore that might not be appreciated by co-workers looking over your shoulder while you take a small break from work to surf the forum
That Picasso Trigger cover is one I remember really well from my ‘early videotheek days’. I found it really sexy

I think more people thinking the same about it , because it rented a lot .
I just re watch the movie & fell asleep this is really crap

Because I’ve been so busy with VHS lately (haven’t even found the time to actually watch a few; so still no new reviews from me in this ‘review corner’ ) I started to finally make a list of all the tapes I have. In the process of doing this I just found another Bruce Li film hidden in a box that I just had to scan for the forum. This cover reminds me of something…
and while I was scanning again…
another Cult Videotheek purchase (This tape was even signed by the director)
a few Spanish eurotrash ones:
I see a very small Klimt influence in that last cover, in this next one also
more birds and jaws ripoffs
that last one comes in a red plastic box and the tape itself is also red. looks very cool.
Schokkend Nieuws magazine #72 has a big ‘nature strikes back!’ special, with the video basta! column reviewing tapes of:
in the shadow of kilimanjaro
savage harvest
monkey shines
insect (blue monkey)
de krokodil des doods (eaten alive)
the great alligator (il fiume del grande caimano)
crocodile
de genadeloze achtervolging (the dog / el perro)
zoltan, hound of dracula
white dog
the pack / bloedhonden eiland
dog island
rats of manhattan (rats - notte dit terrore)
killing birds (uccelli assassini)
two more trash/exploitation movies
that last one is a Shaw Brothers WIP movie. From the East a lot of kungfu/karate and monster movies were released on video in the early 80’s. But not many in exploitation genres. This is the only Pinku release I know of:
but my knowledge is limited to what I have and remember from local videotheeks
I still have a few of these others I had but sold on ebay (one of them is on the pre certification forum)
I still have Autopsy ,beyond the darkness & Evil Birds .
There are a few more like the Evil Birds tape Peter.
The Kiss, People across the lake , Terror at the Opera, Willow, Eight men Out, Mississipi Burning, Fresh Horses, Iron Eagle II are a few other titles from Rca/columbia in red cases & tapes
i sold the bamboo house & Night of the Scorseress on ebay I’ve seen them & could get a good price for them.
Slugs I have also But in a other inlay . I’ve seen this is the German release. The dutch release was from Rcv 2001.

so, not all horror films then…
that Slugs tape is one of the handful of Greek tapes I own. I bought them all together at a cult movie store who were selling a collection of these tapes once, otherwise I would have never come across those in the Netherlands.
I have a Dutch release of Blue Eyes of the Broken doll but not with that weird cover that uses art from other movies.
This is a tape from Belgium, but found in a Dutch videotheek. It’s very well possible that there is also a seperate Dutch release, which would be the one you have (but it is sometimes easy to mistake the Netherlands for Germany or Danmark...)
