ahh i see, thanks for taking the time to post those scans…that malenka looks nice is that an ex-rental or sellthru ?

It’s a ‘Transvaal Tape’ grin
so an ex-rental

It’s a high number though (10627) so I am not sure about it’s age… might be a later re-issue?
here is a scan of the tape (not the same brand as with the red-cover Sunrise tapes)
malenka02_resize.jpg

and to make the post complete grin

that’s why i asked, becuase all ur other sunrise tapes r the original sleeve design and that malenka looked like the same cover designs as the re-releases and sell-thrus come in…do u know if malenka came in the earlier sleeve variant ?

the cassette doesn’t look like a sellthru cassette or a re-release either except for the oversized top label, which some of the 1st run of sellthru - re-releases came in…case in point the house on the edge of the park from sunrise i had , had the same oversize label…and it was a sellthru release from early 90s

do me another favor, i’m sorry to bother u ,..but please scan ur cassette of night of the sorcerers, i wanna see the top cassette label

I don’t have it, so I don’t know it grin Hopefully Dan can shed some light on it…

“the Leerdam Connection”

Things you learn from looking at video labels: two of the funkiest old Dutch VHS labels, Sunrise Tapes and VML, are actually the same company. At least the correspondence address on the tapes (Postbus 48, 4140 AA Leerdam) is the same. A nice excuse to post a few more scans from my collection (this will be one of the last posts with scans from me, because I think I have showed about all the interesting things I have to show now).

Kaiju Cinema!!
monsters01_resize.jpg
super01_resize.jpg
creature01_resize.jpg
gappa01_resize.jpg
motta01_resize.jpg
very similar titles on these last two. Translated from the Dutch its “Gappa - and the flying monsters of Dracula” and “Motta - the flying Dracula monster”. Who knew Dracula was a major Kaiju character? grin

More Japanese movies. This time on the “Worldwide Video Productions” label. A copyright from Sunrise Tapes b.v. (Postbus 48, Leerdam) grin

a nice Internet article on these movies can be read here: http://www.girlswithguns.org/long/crimsonbat.htm

and a few unconnected scans to top it off. first kungfu. this movie could have been better (especially the kungfu) but I really like the cover design
jaguar01_resize.jpg
and another (and final grin) Bruce Le movie from me
tiger01_resize.jpg
http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0077645/ this one has Bolo Yeung, two peplum muscle-men Richard Harrison and Brad Harris and a (very small) bit of cult status

I have had no luck with euro-spy movies. This movie I bought at a second hand market but I found out the tape was broken when I came home :-(
bond_resize.jpg
a few weeks ago I saw it’s sequel (on the same video label) at marktplaats.nl along with that Death Ray on the Sunrise tapes label I talked about earlier and almost finished a deal to buy them when the sellers suddenly decided they preferred to sell all their tapes (most of them uninteresting) in one go afterall…

to further point out something you have all spotted before I’m sure. Similarities in cover design between the VML and Sunrise labels:

note the “ca 1,5 uur speelfilm” banner
yellow_resize.jpg
gappa01_resize.jpg

or the “ca 90 min video-speelfilm” disclaimer (this seems to be the older design)

If Christopher Lee got a dime every time his name popped up on a cover-scan in this forum!

I remember 5 years ago, some journalist asking him what period he considered his prime, the late fifties or the sixties, and he answered: “What do you mean? I’m currently in the Star Wars and Lord of the Rings trilogies, so its NOW of course!”. What a guy…

Just bought a printer/scanner (for a paltry 50 EUR) and needed to test it, so here’s my DFW double-box of Evil Dead 1 and 2.

Those black titles are actually gold metallic, but the scan doesn’t show that:

autopsy01_resize.jpg
Autopsia http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0069744
Video for Pleasure, letterboxed, English dub, Dutch subs
(not to be confused with Macchie Solari which has been released as Autopsy on DVD by Blue Underground)

A very strange film filled mostly with pseudo/hippie philosophy about death, given some weight by famous quotes on the subject from literature. There are even a lot of “people on the street” interviews in it! but it’s mostly boring stuff. Then on the other hand there is a very real autopsy that was filmed for the movie and although it wasn’t shocking to me, the scenes were played out to that effect (hey, they even used this element as the films title). It’s mostly the disgusted faces the actors keep pulling during the autopsy that make me think that, because the footage of the procedure itself is respectfully restrained. So does this movie really wants to be a mondo movie? What does it want to say? I think what it maybe wants to say, was said much better (and thankfully shorter) by Nacho Cerda with his cult classic Aftermath (which is also less pretentious, more shocking and has better production values).

Oh guys!  Some great covers there.  You simply can’t beat those old VHS covers.  I used to have a gallery of old UK VHS covers (including all the ‘Nasties’) on my site but there were too many direct linkers leeching bandwidth.

Hey I wanted to ask you guys a question and see if you have this film somewhere in your collections.
Ever since I saw the trailer for MASSACRE MAFIA STYLE, by Duke Mitchell I’ve been obsessed about it and have been trying to find it everywhere but with no luck. It’s also known as The Executioner and Like Father like Son. It’s not available on DVD anywhere so I’m looking for it on tape.
Thanks.

Here’s the trailer by the way.

I don’t have it but I saw it reviewed in Schokkend Nieuws #70 under the title the Executioner on the Dutch “Video Screen” label. The review also stated the following: “Sage Stallone and Quentin Tarantino rereleased this film in Amerika through their Grindhouse Releasing distributioncompany”.

When this was trailered on “I Drink your Blood” it got a lot of interest, but since then the promised DVD has not appeared.
I picked up an old UK VHS on Ebay and reviewed the film here:
http://www.beardyfreak.com/rvmassacre.php

There were 2 covers in the UK.  One a tame one (that i have) and one a gruseome one with a painting of a guy with a meathook through his eye socket!!
