(1) all that wasted space to the right once you scroll down a bit

Hmmm… methinks you’d see more empty space in the left column, except on really long entries.

That does make sense. I can see why you’d want that column to stay narrower with the size of the graphics you use, and it’s a really minor quibble anyway.

(3) the way it kind of screws up when you view it at a resolution lower than 1024x768.

Well, that’s somewhat unavoidable because the design is optimized for 1024x768 monitors.  We decided to go that route for various reasons—more flexibility with content and ads, as well as based on our stats— plus the majority of users (91% at last count) were on displays that were 1024x768 or higher.

Yeah, I was mostly referring to the footer and the background, but again, not a big deal, everything is still readable, which is what’s most important.

I agree with the one comment about wanting to view the details of the Masthead somehow (outside of searching for it in the gallery).

It’s certainly not out of the question.  There are some other kinks that need to be ironed out, and then we’ll see. smile

That’s good to hear! It’s something I always wished for with the original Twitch design.

I know how much work it is to do a big revamp like this, and I’m happy to see the good old Twitch hasn’t changed that much. Congrats!

Thanks for the kind words.  Believe it or not, all of this is kind of fun for me, and I don’t mind spending all of the necessary time and energy.  Of course, my wife might have some different thoughts on the matter. smile

Thanks for listening to my thoughts! I appreciate all the effort, and hopefully you can spend a little time with your wife now that this is mostly done. smile

yeh i know but i’d rather see the name of the movie underneath the masthead rather than wasting twitch’s bandwidth searching through all the pictures just to find the name.

Ask and ye shall receive.  I had a few extra minutes tonight so I thought I’d take care of this.  The title of the movie currently being displayed should appear in the lower right-hand corner of the masthead.

If you don’t see it right away, try refreshing your browser once or twice.

Great job.  I love that I can now see the movie names on the masthead.  I don’t know if this has been asked yet, I tried to see it in the main site’s write up, but it seems I’m automatically logged into the forums, but I have to go into the forums and go back to the main page to be logged in there.  It’s probably something simple, but I really suck at this whole internet thing (it took me like 8 tries before I could put up a movie still on the forum).  Looks awesome though!

Just a minor quibble. I can’t seem to stay logged in on the main page/forums from the ‘puter at work or at home even with the relevant boxes ticked. Do I need to widen my cookies privacy settings if I want it to stick?

New layout is grand by the way..nice work! cheese

If you’re having difficulties staying logged in on the main site and/or forums, check the URL that you’re using to access the site.  For example, if you’re accessing the main site via “twitchfilm.net” and the forums via “www.twitchfilm.net”, that may be causing a conflict.  Your browser might be treating those two URLs as two different sites, and so if you’re logged in via one URL, you may not necessarily be logged in via the other.

I’ve set up some redirects that will hopefully fix this, but you may still be inadvertently experiencing it.  Rule of thumb, always access the site via http://twitchfilm.net (no “www").  That’s the “main” URL.

The “Film & DVD Reviews Archives” have just been redesigned.  You can now browse through all of Twitch’s reviews by title.  Check it out…

http://twitchfilm.net/site/archive/film-dvd-reviews/

Hopefully, this will make it a little easier for you find the review(s) you’re looking for.

(And don’t forget, there’s always the site’s advanced search form.  It’s a lot faster and more powerful than the old search.)

Is there a way to choose a black text on white background preference like the previous version? White on black is too hard to read paragraphs on, especially with the small font.

As of right now, there is no “black on white” version.  Once we’ve got all of big kinks worked out, I’ll see what I can do.

Of course, if you’re on a Mac, you can always invert your screen colors! wink

I’m on a Mac (20yrs+) & I didn’t even know you could ‘invert screen colours’. Not that i’m about to use that option anytime soon.
I must have something wrong with my eyesight because everytime i find a site with white text on a black background I get a brain strain after a few minutes trying to read anything.

I will applaud the day you reinstall the black/white option.
I had to ‘make text bigger’ for even though I have 21” screen the text was frightfully small as well.

...but it looks snazzy so far. Well done.
Still looking around…
