The best deal/quality release that I have in my collection is the Korean Pan’s Labyrinth set. I think it was around the same price as the domestic release, but the packaging is very very sweet
(Unlike other folks, mine has not fallen apart or anything…still as pretty as the day I bought it)

I have that set and it is falling apart a little. I love my The Host LE, the Forbidden Planet LE with the Robby the Robot is really cool. I have a few Korean sets that I really like, The President’s Barber is a neat low key set, and I’m looking forward to my Secret Sunshine LE

Same here: there’s a problem with the glue in some of these, but mine is fine.
True, the korean “Pan” looks marvellous. It’s featured somewhere on the first page of this topic (post no.10) and is indeed quite cheap, even though that key-bookmark thingy is really 18 karat gold!
My Pan set is as good as the day I bought it. I’ve only watched it once and keep it in the shelve, snuggly between disc covers. I’ve got the UK release also so I’ll watch that if I get the urge.

I have the US edition, however my US disc 1 is scuffed. I haven’t tried to play it, but it appears as though I may need to have it resurfaced.
Oh snap. This is a beauty but I think it would be unwise to get this now since there are at least two more films on the way.
The Harry Potter collection, films 1-5
Picked up this one a year or so back—no personal pics since I haven’t been able to take it out of the box yet (it’s in storage somewhere in the US):
This is another nice one that I haven’t really done anything with yet. I wish Amazon (US) would put out some exclusives like the UK versions (have the Spiderman 3 LE on order):
Like this one as well—starting to get more of the spaghetti western SEs through xploitedcinema as well:
Sooner or later I’ll upload my Chinese R6 “Shawshank Redemption LE” pics - complete with souvenir rock hammer.
a few others here:
- includes t-shirt and other stuff.
—still haven’t opened this one, I’ll get some shots of it eventually.
That Alien Quadroligy Head is really something to behold. I’m generally not too fond of these busts but the way they fitted the 9 discs in this one is pure gold, using the unusual hammerhead shape of Giger’s design to display them in a visually pleasing manner. Brilliant!
This weekend the first season of the Powerpuff Girls arrived, and I really had to laugh at what they did with the discs.
Here is the set:
So far, so normal. But if you unfold the insides, you see that the discs form Blossom’s eyes:
Yeah The Powerpuff Girls is a great set.
I picket up Ichi the Killer blood pack edition in Toronto which is great but I might have to put the disks in another case because of the difficulty to get them out of it.
I also picked up The Sting which is in a “leather” book and looks really nice. It’s part of Universals Legacy series.
This image doesn’t do it justice though.
This one got mentioned a couple of times in the previous forum, so I thought it warranted some pics here:
The “The Host LE Gift Set” 4 disc edition:
The cover is a VERY thick translucent plastic wrap-around, and you open the set like this:
The contents are the disc-pack, a script booklet and a storyboard book:
The disc-pack contains the 3 DVD’s and the soundtrack CD, and both books are in Korean only. Don’t let that bother you too much though: the storyboard book is filled with beautifully detailed sketches and computer tests. It also contains several scenes NOT in the movie.
KD-Media has delivered one of their most stylish sets with this one. It looks extremely classy, like something which is obviously expensive but not too flashy.
Congrats!
As luck will have it I received the Korean LE of “Tokikake” aka “The Girl Who Leapt Through Time” and this one also has a translucent plastic slipcover.
The outside:
It lifts, revealing the beautiful artwork underneath:
An extended look at the insides. These feature 3 DVDs (each in their own cover), the VERY high quality 70 page Tokikake handbook (featuring lots of sketches and reproductions for the background paintings) and a few filmframes.
That’s pretty feckin’ sweet, Ard. I’ve never heard of it beyond reading a sypnosis though…worth bagging?
Oh, definitely!
James Maruyama put up a review on the main site here with which I wholeheartedly agree. I’ll be adding my own (hopefully) sometime this weekend but the gist of it is going to be that it was far better than I expected, and I don’t have the intricate knowledge of the source material that James has.
Madhouse (known for Satoshi Kon’s body of work) knocks this one out of the park technically, and alledgedly on a shoestring budget as well which is really impressive. It beat Ghibli’s “Tales of Earthsea” in the cinema’s, to everyone’s surprise.

it’s won so many awards (see the wiki page) it’s hard to believe - i suppose, as with ‘tekkon kinkreet’ and ‘paprika’ - that it’s having a hard time being seen as a clear choice by the american anime community at large. scott green, the man who writes AICN’s anime coverage, stated to me in an email that it’s one of the 5 best anime feature films he’s ever seen. don’t forget though, if you’re not too swung by packaging, there’s a subbed HK disc due october 4th 07 and it’s already listed at yesasia.com ... much cheaper, but plainer too.
