The Evil Dead “Book of the Dead” editions.
“Evil Dead 2” will be coming shortly, once I got my sound effects straightened out a bit.
But first, here it is: the first “Evil Dead”, Book of the Dead Edition! Bought cheap in the UK (a feat which I unfortunately couldn’t repeat with “Evil Dead II”, as the ED-II BotD-edition couldn’t be released in Britain because of rights issues)
Taking the spectacularly ugly packaging out of the plain ugly packaging. And it stinks! The smell needs to be experienced to be believed…
Extras hidden inside: a booklet on all ownable editions of Evil Dead released EVER, and an unrelated movie starring Bruce Campbell.
The “Evil Dead” disc is hidden in the inside-back cover.
As I said in the post for “Evil Dead” (found here) I wasn’t able to score “Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn” Book of the Dead edition in the UK, because the distributing rights for that movie are tied up (unlike Evil Dead 1).
But, glory be to regionfree DVD-players, what’s to stop me from importing?
So with joy here is the US “Evil Dead II: Dead by Dawn” Book of the Dead edition!
Out of its tight jacket:
Revealing its disgusting innards, including the film itself on the inside-back cover:
But you’ll agree the sheer shock value of the first “Evil Dead” Book of the Dead Edition has been somewhat diminished. I mean, this is more or less what we expected it to look like, and the beige teeth and eyeball make it look more cartoonish and less real, if anything.
That is Evil Dead 1 on the left, and 2 on the right:
But this packaging has a final ace up its sleeve: press the eyeball and it screams!
That’s one hell of a gimmick, and one that hasn’t gone unnoticed in my household!
My three-years-old son proves that with great packaging comes a great early taste of movies:
Blockbuster starting today is offering this Indiana Jones treat; yet its only the case and not the dvd’s; and its only available in the USA and one can’t buy this on-line ($49.99):
Nothing special on that one. It just gathers all the DVDs ever released, including The Alien Legacy. You can buy ‘em calmly and separately in the USA, and even avoid AVP.
That is indeed odd.. people selling empty Special Edition cases to put your existing editions in.
Odd indeed, but not unheard of. Before the release of the 2-disc edition of DOGMA, View Askew used to sell an empty box to host the “Askewverse” DVDs released at the time (Clerks, Mallrats, Chasing Amy and single-disc Dogma).
Just type “Gantz” in Amazon and it should be the first thing on the list.
Hell, I discovered it because it floated by in one of the Amazon ads here on the Twitch forum!
