Laserblast? see that’s the fun of collecting VHS, you learn something new about the past every time grin

I’ve done a bit of scanning tonight. I have a very cheap and small scanner so the covers of most of the big boxes loose a bit of image on one side, ah well. My first two posts in this thread are updated with scans and I updated another post with the cover of Thor the Conqueror. Time to show you a few more covers from my collection:

I only started collecting films seriously with the DVD format (818 discs/boxes at this moment) but over the years I also collected quite a few VHS tapes already. Mostly B-movies and I updated very few of them on DVD. There are a few exceptions ofcourse like this KungFu film, an absolute find.
shaolin_fox_resize.jpg
The English dub is hilarious, the settings and characters are colorful and the kungfu is exciting
When I found out it was released in the US on a region-free DVD under a different title I bought it instantly
jade_dagger_dvd_resize.jpg
The image ratio of the DVD is better, the title sequence is longer than the one on VHS, the picture quality is soft but not worse than the VHS version. But one difference is totally strange: This version has ANOTHER English dub. The lines are also hilarious and wooden (even more wooden) but I miss a few fun one-liners I remembered like “your ax is rusty, maybe you should throw it away!” and “you dirty nymphomaniac!”. The dialog of both versions is totally different!!

Sometimes I love titles translated in Dutch like with the Deathhead Virgin
maagd_resize.jpg
or the above tape of “Mad Max in de Donderkooi” grin It sounds so stupid! But maybe “Thunderdome” sounds stupid to native English speakers also. To me Thunderdome sounds cool and Donderkooi… just doesn’t make any sense.

Sonny Boy has been mentioned before in this thread. There are quite a lot of other totally bizarre movies to be found on VHS, like
baby_resize.jpg
or
toy_box_resize.jpg

I also have a few tapes that fall into the strangest genre ever conceived: nazi-exploitation
everybody knows Ilsa I guess
ilsa_resize.jpg
but she has a few sisters grin
elsa_resize.jpg
greta_resize.jpg
from what I’ve seen this one is the “best” in the genre
beast_in_heat_resize.jpg
but you can get even more adventurous (demented) and make a nazi/blax-ploitation crossover!?!?
black_gestapo_resize.jpg

one final picture. Another one of my favorite covers. I really like that with this tape even the pictures on the back are drawn!!

- I tought it was Jan Verheyen who whas in charge of the programing (I never get it why He did not add his own movies to the program LOL )

He did! “Rabid Grannies” was in there, and is also on the second “Nacht van de Wansmaak” DVD!

I love Black Gestapo - there’s a US DVD release of this on Diamond and it’s paired up with The Black Six (I think it maybe OOP now though).

The UK Pre Cert of Beast In Heat fetches big cash and is a very sought after VHS here.

Toy Box and The Baby I think are available on DVD on the Something Weird Video label in the US.I recently bought a Mexican Lobby Card of The Baby:

Here’s a great link for VHS covers posted over on DVD Maniacs:

http://www.dvdmaniacs.net/forums/showthread.php?t=16578

Watched Thirst on the VCL Pre Cert label yesterday. Nice idea for a film (a farm for vampires!) although it isn’t able to quite pull it off.

The toy box ! I have it also , the films are in the early 90’s being re released.
with the same coverart & big box.
i love the Mexican lobby card for the baby (el bebe). It’s like a poster because you have to look very good to see a still from the movie.
I will be adding more scans soon (first I have to scan them & edit them to smaller size)
It could happen that there are a lot scans from the same company but that’s mostly because the company’s are all together in the racks . here a few pictures from my collection VHS. They are all in a different room , before I called it my little Video house it was used as a stock house for the store . the store is closed & I buyed the house so I got a lot of space (there is another level on top)

----.jpg?t=1186669191 --.jpg?t=1186669223

and a few more scans :

this must be the oldest one in my collection, this is the actual inlay ! based on the cassete tapes . The box is like a big cassete tape to.

theteacher.jpg?t=1186669486

another old tapes Sweet Sugar I really like this Inlay

Scannen0057.jpg?t=1186669550

An Ursula Andress “masterpiece”

Scannen0055.jpg?t=1186669681

the Donna Summer film Thank God it’s Friday With one of my favourite inlays (I would love to have that poster)

Scannen0034.jpg?t=1186669768

and here the Converge release of The Texas chain Massacre

Scannen0020-1.jpg?t=1186669891

So peter you like the titles bein translated in Dutch ? What about this one ? Better know as The Godsend and if I translate De Ogen van het Kwaad it will sound like The Eyes of Evil

Scannen0016-1.jpg?t=1186669953

I might have an original tape of the Toy Box because I dug it up from a very old and dusty videotheek (along with all those Sunrise tapes and other oldies), but I’m not sure.

WoW a videotape in a box based on an audio cassette box design. I have never seen anything like that before!

Dutch titles, when talking about these kind of movies, have an incredible “pulpy” feel to me. Ofcourse the original titles have that quality too, but the Dutch language adds to it. It’s like watching the German dub of an exploitation movie grin

That’s true, but believe it or not this was actually a videostore owner!
With only one final rack of remaining tapes, but most of them big boxes (Video for Pleasure mostly) so exactly the thing I am looking for. I don’t know if there are any real finds amongst them, because most titles seemed pretty vague to me and I haven’t checked them out on ImdB yet, but some of them sound and look great like:

the ivory ape
de stalen handschoen (!!! grin)
prototype
hero bunker
night cries
calibre 9
massarati and the brain
de bloed kelder

(NB It turned out to be a busy week scanning, posting and buying grin so I haven’t watched those two Vestron tapes yet… but I’ve seen a lot of interesting tapes I would like to trade them for grin)

And he had the coolest stories about being a videostore owner in the eighties.  :D Very nice guy.

Which reminds me: anyone still have a functioning V-2000 player? Because if you do, Petcor just hit the tip of the iceberg…

Meeting a forumer “in the flesh” was fun and a bit weird, I was expecting either a babe with a knife or a bearded guy with white eyes, but he looks nothing like that in real life…

It’s ok by me for trading , but not all of the scans i put up here are for trading Peter, some of them I keep in my collection.

That makes sense, Video for Pleasure is one of the Oldest company’s in Belgium & The netherlands. And I think the boxes & tittles scare most people away cheese

And he had the coolest stories about being a videostore owner in the eighties.

I know someone here to she could tell stories like nobody else, in fact she had the first videostore here in the wide location. I can listen to the stories for Hours

coming up next : a few Video for pleasure Scans (and most of them are up for trading wink ) like this one

Wonder Woman
