Since there isn’t a separate part of the forums for issues, I made a topic.  Is there a button that is like the “view posts since last visit” button that used to exist?  So far I’ve just had to check all of the forums one by one to find to posts.

It’s there but there is a different name attached: pending posts. This should give you a list of all unread posts in the topics.

I used to browse the forum with the “view the most recent posts on the forum” option that listed all posts in all threads in chronological order. The “view pending posts” option isn’t doing the same thing for me. It doesn’t even seem to list all the new posts, so indeed I have to browse all the topics to see if something interesting has been posted. Is there a function on the new forum that is similar to “view the most recent posts on the forum”? I might have missed it, if not it could be a nice idea to add that function, if possible ofcourse

I agree, the “View New Posts” feature isn’t ideal—I’m working on it.

In the meantime, however, have you thought of subscribing to forum topics?  Doing so e-mails you whenever someone posts a new response on a particular thread.  I wrote up some more info on subscriptions here.

I feel peters pain.  A simple button to go to the ‘newest post’ in a thread would be the ideal analogue to the old forum.  Personally, this worked quite well.

I feel the same way.  I’ve relabelled the buttons at the top to hopefully make their function a little more clear.

“View New Topics” lists all new topics that have been started since your last visit.  I realize this isn’t the same as “View New Posts”.  A “topic” is not the same as a “post”.  A “topic” is a collection of individual users’ posts.  For example, “Forum Issues” is the topic, and all of us are contributing posts to that topic.

“View Today’s Active Topics” lists all topics that have seen lots of activity recently.

“View Pending Topics” lists all topics that only have one post (in other words, are brand new and noone has commented on them yet.)

“Mark All Topics As Read”, well, does just that.
I realize that none of this is a substitute for the “View New Posts” function on the old forums.  As I said, I’m looking into some potential solutions for this.

I’m more talking an icon near the title of any thread that has a new entry, you click the icon and it takes to to the ‘newest’ entry since the users last visit.  I tend to browse the forum based on new topics, but just want to read the new posts in each thread.

I appreciate the effort, that “view new posts” button was bookmarked, so it is the way I am used to viewing the forum.  I can scan the different sections of the forum and find things, but the other way would be easier.

For some reason I’m having problems uploading an avatar - it keeps telling it doesn’t recognise the file format but it’s a jpg file….

The JPG file might be corrupt.  How did you create it?

Just saved the picture off the net like I usually do. I’ll try a different picture (I’m trying to get a Seijun Suzuki related avatar like my last one).

While I’m at it is there a way of knocking off the automatic ticking of the “Notify me via email when someone posts in this thread” box? So instead of unticking it it will be clear automatically unless selected? That way when I forgot my work email address doesn’t get bombarded with response emails!

Cheers

I’ll try again to see if I can clarify what I was trying to say originally.

In the post new reply box there are two boxes next to the Options tab (one says Notify me via email when someone responds in this thread). Well that option is automatically selected (a tick appears in the box). I was wondering whether there is anyway you could make it so this wasn’t the case because I keep forgetting to knock it off and thus I keep getting emails send to me when someone posts in the thread.

Does that make sense now? If not let me know.

I resolved the avatar issue but doing it at home instead of work!

Opus, I noticed that when I do a spell check on a post, URL links to images sometimes get messed up automaticly. Am I doing something wrong or is it a glitch?

I’m not sure, it might be a glitch.  What browser/OS are you using?
