zombeaner - May 29, 2008, 5:00pm That’s definitely Edie McClurg from Ferris Bueller’s Day Off.
Hehe, that’s her alright. It’s not Ferris Bueller though. Remember, the guy from my first image wasn’t Matthew Broderick. In fact, he’s not in this film at all.

Ard, is the kung-fu flick a Tsui Hark picture?

As per Ard’s request (or was it plea?) Here is My current Quiz (all three from same flick)
#1

#2

#3

(hint, this director has been making waves at Cannes for a number of years and really had a successful film this year (although the above film is a previous effort)

AAARRRGH!!! I know that woman in Kurt’s picture #3!!!
She was on a photo in a folder of the Rotterdam festival, but my guess is the film wasn’t at the top of my list because I didn’t make an effort to see it. Still, when hunting for films I DID want to see I would constantly pass this photo of her.
Now where did I keep that folder…
As for your question about my “kung-fu flick”: it’s not Tsui Hark.
These days, I’d say the director is better known (and to be honest flat-out better) than Tsui Hark.

Erm. the woman is the Directors wife. Who over the course of the film he films her as super-hot and sexy (see Still #1) and also rather plain-jane and dumpy. And while the director plays the husband in the film too, they fight A Lot. how’s that for couples therapy?

In that vein: I’ve always considered “The Abyss” a very expensive way for James Cameron to tell his then-wife Gale Anne Hurd that it would take a miracle and alien intervention to save their marriage…

A guess for Geert Jan’s:
“Oh God: Book II”?
That would make the woman in your first screenshot Suzanne Pleshette.

Incorrect. Here’s another screenshot. If you recognize this guy you can probably look up in which film he had this cameo appearance:

My fifth entry for the kung-fu flick:

As for Geert Jan:
Geert Jan - June 1, 2008, 4:20am If you recognize this guy you can probably look up in which film he had this cameo appearance:
That is Kurt Vonnegut, I suspect. Which would make this “Back to School”.

OK, new one for me coming up.
This is for guessing “Back to School” right:

As for the other one, from Asia, here be hints:
1:/
That woman in the first three shots? That was Maggie Cheung.
2:/
Some more leads of this film in close-up. Both were considered masters in their respective fields of entertainment when this movie was made, but only one of them was trying a career change with this film…

Aaaaah - Is it Johnnie To’s ‘The Bare-foot Kid’? That’s Ti Lung on the right, and I think Aaron Kwok on the left.

IS THE RIGHT ANSWER!
Well, it’s “The Bare-footed Kid” but I’ll give you the difference…
This was indeed the start of Aaron Kwok’s transition from Kanto-pop idol to moviestar.
Well done Bench2020, your turn!
