Does anyone have an opinion on the ending for 13 Beloved? It was really late when I saw it and the ending still has me scratching my head.

Just saw this, so big spoilers ahead:

(really, spoilerific, you have been warned)

The final resolution of the film was just....everything up to that point was going smoothly, the film is still a sharp and well done thriller, but that ending.

For starters, the kid in the white architect matrix-realoded white room, complete with a James Bond villian chair (and cat) and with goons dressed in black. Sorry but that felt just lame, especially considering the dark and tense feeling the film was building up to that point.

So, was that guy he’s real father, or a guy who looked like his father? And the detective in the hospital, he’s the guy walking towards the girl in the end? exactly what was his role, or what’s the point of that last scene for that matter.

Again, the film up to the final act is great, but then it felt like it didn’t knew what to do with itself. Even making his commentary on human greediness, how low we can go for our own good, and what not felt quite bland.

Someone like Jean-Luc Godard is for me intellectual counterfeit money when compared to a good kung fu film.

I think the guy sleeping int the chair is supposed to be his father (or at least the man from Australia who raised him as a son).  So his 13th task/choice is to kill his father. This is bad ending because we are led to believe that his father was playing the exact same game and given the exact same choice - “to kill your son”.  What I don’t understand is why the son gets first dibs on the task.  Daddy is either unconscious or sleeping or whatever, but he’s playing the same game, so how is he being motivated solely by his own free will to play if he’s forced into submission during his 13th choice?  The point of the whole film sort of unravels.  In a weird way, the gamemaster (Bloefeld Jr.) cheated.  He goes on and on about how everybody makes their own choice...but I doubt anyone would submit themselves to being a possible murder victim before getting a chance to complete their own tasks.  Thats just crazy, but so is eating a plate of crap...so maybe I’m over thinking things.

At first I thought it was going to be a ridiculous ending of it being all in his head, or that he’s that kid in the beginning helping the old lady. Then I realized that old lady was playing her own game in the beginning and got the kid killed as one of her acts. I still haven’t bothered watching the movie again yet (movies keep piling up in theaters and on DVD), but eventually I’ll get around to trying to understanding the ending, if there’s even a plausible explanation behind it.

This was my “Halloween” treat to myself, so here’s may take on who’s walking towards the girlfriend. I’d guess it was the detective we saw earlier in the film at the hospital. I’m also not quite sure if the police had a hand in the “game” as well since in an earlier scene when the girl is being interviewed at the police station after the motorcyle massacre she notices the “game imprint/insignia” on some letterhead in a folder on the desk. Anyone agree with regard to the police conspiracy thing???

I think the Boy Scout at the beginning of the movie is the same kid who ends up later being Blofeld Jr.

The police were definitely in on it.

As far as the ending, I don’t know what to think about it. I do know that I want to watch it again.

Nice idea about the old lady playing the game…

As for Chit’s father, I reckon he was given the choice of letting Chit try first. He knew he couldn’t do the deed as a kid, so was banking on him still not being able to kill him.

I thought the most monstrous scene in the whole film was watching Chit’s dad jumping up and down, celebrating his win.

As for the detective, I believe he knew about the game, but wanted no part in it. I think he was a little disappointed in his men when he told them to call off the search at the hospital, and they immediately capitulated. I think he saw the girl as a kindred spirit, someone he could finally talk to about the game.
