That gun thing that Bardem carries HAS to be illegal in all 50 states.  I’ve never seen anything like it.  It’s so f^&#xke;d up looking.  What IS it?

He had a few, all of which had some form of silencer (even the shotgun). The other was just some silenced semi-automatic. Couldn’t tell you the type.

Also, that is one menacing fuck of a film character. He totally will make that stupid AFI top 100 villains list or some shit.

A review is coming eventually, but the stand-out thing about no Country for Old men is the COMPLETE LACK OF SCORE.  Total Fucking silence except for the natural sounds of the film.  Smart move, I hope more people follow.  Heck, Elizabeth:  The Golden Age would have had more than one scene benefit from this approach instead of the overly bombastic score there.

i read the book, and if i remember right, it’s the gun they use to kill cattle.

i’d check the book, but i lent it to a friend. i totally loved the book, and i can’t wait to see what the Coens have done.

He did have that airgun, carrying the large tank of compressed air with him all around, but I don’t think that’s what the original poster was asking about.

First Coen Bros. movie I’ve been excited about since O Brother - can’t wait.

And no score!!

Kind of unrelated, but that’s something that always gets me - people talk about trying to recreate a ‘70s cinema feel in their films and then go and load it up with the John Williams premier package.  Look at the great ‘70s offerings - All the President’s Men, The Conversation, etc - very little score, mostly ambient with a few simple refrains at pitched moments.  Without likely even trying the Coens’ managed to tap a vein everyone else consistently misses.

He carries two weapons—the compressed air cannister with the tube is a captive bolt pistol.  They use it in slaughterhouses to kill cattle.  It shoots a rod of metal out six or so inches, crushing the brain of the animal, and then goes back inside the “gun” like a pistol plunger.

The second thing, the one that has the giant tin can on it, is exactly that—if it’s based on the book, I seem to recall it being a homemade hair-spray can suppressor (silencer) attached to a rifle/shotgun.

i’m just curious to see how the Coens adapted it. cos much of the point of the story is in one character’s monologue, with some flashbacks.

Most of the monologue is either deeply buried (i.e. viewer has to extract it from the aesthetic/style/etc of the film), or completely excised.  The closing 30 or so pages are reduced to about one 3 minutes of screen time.  (Better than nothing, I thought the coens would completely go thriller route, there is more there than that)

Awesome, awesome film. I saw it twice. It was so exciting and I really hope that Javier Bardem gets an Oscar nomination!

Finally saw it earlier this week, and really enjoyed it (though I’m not sure “enjoyed” is the right term to use for a film as bleak as this one).

My review, FWIW.

Great movie!Bardem was scary as hell in this movie.I remember seeing him a long time ago in a movie called ‘jamon, jamon’ with Penelope Cruz, but who would have thought that he would get this far in Hollywood.

I read some weird theories about this movie.Either those people are on drugs or i just didn’t understand the movie.

Absolutely freaky character. Could never guess what he was going to do next. In my opinion he made that movie. Brilliant Character, and his choice of weapons where bizarre.
