Wow, this movie is making serious bank in S.Korea!  I really am quite flabberghasted as I thought the film would suffer by comparison to the last monster movie that tore up the box office (you know which one I mean, the one that more or less flopped in every country outside of S.Korea)

While Box Office conversations (from any country) tend to bore me, I’m a little stunned by this nonetheless.

Any Thoughts?

The general consensus from some reviews I check out is its a bad film.  It must be a nationalism/patriotism thing.  Thats the only logical reason I can think of.

Bad Film.  I think the trailer gave that away loud and clear.  Has it crossed over into National ‘guilty pleasure’ - like say The Transformers?

Isn’t this just one of those critic proof films that people go see just for the spectacle? It has surprisingly good FX and the trailer make it seem like a kick ass action fest so what’s not to like.
Will be interesting to see if this will do better than The Host in the US or anywhere else.

Saw a “Dragon Wars” poster at a United Artists theater last night - so it seems like they’re pushing it out to a wider range of cinemas than Magnolia did with THE HOST (which only played at the Landmark Theater here in town).  If nothing else, more screens will likely equal better returns.

Opens in the U.S. this weekend.  Anyone going to check it out?  I’m on the fence - I suppose it warrants a matinĂ©e…

oi!  My jaw hit the floor when I saw that Dragon Wars was actually given a 2200+ wide-screen release!  I think it has already raked in more clams than The Host did in its entire theatrical!  No accounting for taste.  I’ll still catch Dragon Wars at some point, but my expectations are low, even by a batshit crazy pure genre film.
