The biggest Dutch movie producer, San Fu Maltha, known Internationally from Paul Verhoeven’s Zwartboek, has invested in global genre cinema before. Like on Jade Warrior, the wuxia film from Finland (sidenote: at the last AFFF Maltha and director Annila said something about plans to make another wuxia together in China in the near future!). The latest word is that he is now teaming up with director Brian Yuzna to make horror movies in Indonesia.
Under the banner of productionhouse Komodo they want to make three genrepics per year using local talent, claiming that production costs are low and the popularity of the genre high. Filming on the first production, Amphibious, will start in 2008. It’s about a prehistoric giant scorpion (?) that rises up from the ocean to destroy a coastal village. After Amphibious Yuzna wants to direct a forth re-animator movie.
