Well.  Just talking books in the last Twitch-O-Meter, the Confederacy of Dunces novel to film came up.  Someone mentioned that it had been trying to get made for decades, and co-incidentally, Cracked.com posted a list of “Most Awesome Movies That will never get made” and CoD tops it.  Rest of the projects (some of debatable quality) are here:

Anything else out there that was cancelled, morphed into something of lesser quality (Hmm, there was a Zombie Western starring Chow Yun Fat in development for some time before it disappeared) or otherwise wishful book, novel, screenplay, graphic novel/comic, song, newpaper article, true-story, dream you had last week, bad acid trip that you’d like to see as a celluloid feature?

Here’s the place to talk about it.

Well… for starters I’d like to point everyone to this topic in the old forum, which contains a fair number of dream projects.

I’d have loved for Tim Burton to have made a(nother) “Catwoman” movie with Michelle Pfeiffer, as was originally planned… but look what happened instead.

I think Jodorowski’s Dune (before it was handed to David Lynch) is (in cult circles grin) the most famous movie that never got made.

I recall print ads in Cinefantastique announcing Full Moon’s production of Stuart Gordon’s SHADOW OVER INNSMOUTH, which never came to pass.  Aside from an odd TRANCERS sequel and THE LURKING FEAR (which was supposed to be directed by Gordon when Empire was still around, some time in the mid-80s), the only worthwhile films ever churned out by Full Moon were Gordon’s - too bad he didn’t get to make this one.  DAGON seems quite similar (and I think might even credit the story as a source), but it isn’t INNSMOUTH.

The ads for INNSMOUTH were pretty striking (especially to a 10 / 12 year old boy) - the profile of a busty blond shooting up from the water, her arms folded across her chest, gills on her neck and scales creeping down her body, a foreboding town in the background…

While we’re on Gordon, how about his version of HONEY, I SHRUNK THE KIDS?  Could’ve been interesting.

I remember reading, many years ago, about a Pedro Almodovar project that was to focus on a doctor whose daughter was raped.  The doctor was to have captured and preformed a revenge sex-change on the rapist and then fall in love with his creation.  Read a blurb in a magazine somewhere and never heard of it again.
