Yes, kids, the time has come to announce our five winners of Seagalology - the new Steven Seagal book written by Aint it Cool’s Vern. Now, I got an early proof version of this to read and I’ve got to say this is one of the most compulsively readable film books I’ve ever owned. Seriously, you want this. Anyway, our winners:
John Daly, Krzysztof Skorka, Jaime Wolf, Stuart Muller and Mark Ferguson.
Yes, boys and girls, we have one fine DVD giveaway for you today. The fine lads at Mondo Macabro have been doing stellar work finding and restoring the absolute classics of international cult film and we’ve got five copies of their latest release - the legendary Indonesian shocker Queen of Black Magic - to give away.
The story is set in the exotic countryside of far-off Indonesia . A wedding ceremony goes dreadfully wrong and the groom suspects black magic. He seeks out the woman he believes is responsible and she is hurtled to her death over a high cliff. She is rescued from the dark jungle by a strange hermit, who tells her she must seek revenge. They accused her of black magic – now she must learn to use that magic against them and become the Queen of Evil. One of the first Asian horror movies to be widely released on video in the U.S, THE QUEEN OF BLACK MAGIC is one of the true cult classics of Asian cinema. Setting the pattern for crazy special effects and wild gore sequences that were unique at the time and are still eye-popping today, it’s often been imitated but rarely been duplicated. Still fondly remembered by those who discovered it on cut and badly cropped VHS tapes, it is now available uncut and in all its widescreen glory for the first time anywhere!
Want one? Just before May 26th - the film’s release date - saying you want in on the draw and we’ll select five winners at random. Check out a scene from the film below the break and hit the link below to check some stills.

You know, I think we just might be running the most simultaneous contests that have ever run in Twitch’s history - scroll down the right column to find a complete list and the relevant links - but there can never be too much free stuff, right? Well, all of you readers out there say a nice thank you to regular reader Tuan Jim who just had a relative return from vacation in Indonesia with multiple copies of Joko Anwar’s neo-noir thriller Kala. Tuan’s a clever enough fellow to know that he is unlikely to ever watch more than one copy of any film, no matter how good it is, simultaneously and so he offered up the extra two copies to us for giveaway.
Now, to my mind Anwar is by far the best thing going in Indonesian film today. His debut film, Joni’s Promise, is a clever little charmer and this one’s got style and atmosphere to spare. We’ve got the trailer embedded in the Twitch Player for you to check out and if you want a chance at a free copy all you have to do is telling me the name of the sex comedy Anwar recently penned for another director. And not to worry, if you’re feeling lazy you’ll find the answer lurking in the bowels of our forum.
Everybody say thanks to Tuan Jim and get to it!

SON OF RAMBOW is the name of the home movie made by two little boys with a big video camera and even bigger ambitions. Set on a long English summer in the early 80’s, SON OF RAMBOW is a comedy about friendship, faith and the tough business of growing up. We see the story through the eyes of Will, the eldest son of a fatherless Plymouth Brethren family. The Brethren regard themselves as God’s ‘chosen ones’ and their strict moral code means that Will has never been allowed to mix with the other ‘worldlies,’ listen to music or watch TV, until he finds himself caught up in the extraordinary world of Lee Carter, the school terror and maker of bizarre home movies. Carter exposes Will to a pirate copy of Rambo: First Blood and from that moment Will’s mind is blown wide open and he’s easily convinced to be the stuntman in Lee Carters’ diabolical home movie. Will’s imaginative little brain is not only given chance to flourish in the world of film making, but is also very handy when it comes to dreaming up elaborate schemes to keep his partnership with Lee Carter a secret from the Brethren community. Will and Carter’s complete disregard for consequences and innocent ambition means that the process of making their film is a glorious rollercoaster that eventually leads to true friendship. They start to make a name for themselves at school as movie makers but when popularity descends on them in the form of the Pied Piper-esque French exchange student, Didier Revol, their unique friendship and their precious film are pushed, quite literally, to breaking point.
You’ll find trailers and clips below the break.
