Currently we’re in a golden age of TV programming. There are so many excellent and worthwhile shows that it’s basically impossible to keep up with them all. But how we got to this place is worth exploring as well and this excellent 6 DVD set containing 17 fully restored dramas from the 1948 to 1956 run of Studio One. This was the sort of theater that once thrived on TV but would ultimately be neglected bymainstream networks and is really only present now on PBS cable or subscription channels in the form of one shots. All star casts featuring the likes of Jack Lemmon, Art Carney, Eva Marie Saint, and Sal Mineo present stuff like Twelve Angry Men, 1984, Wuthering Heights, Pontius Pilate, Confessions of a Nervous Man and The Medium and bring them to life in a way that makes you grieve for the lack of this stuff even in this golden age. Extras include historical featurettes and interviews and a great 52 page booklet with essays from Gore Vidal and others.

this will probably be the first dvd set i've purchased in years. studio one showed a promise in television production quality that few have matched since.
