Think you know your Shaw Brothers history?  How about Cathay Films?  Many people think they do but what most of those people fail to realize is that while both Cathay and Shaw had their greatest international success with their Chinese language productions their Hong Kong studios were actually satellite operations with the company headquarters for both being in Singapore, where both companies produced extensive - and largely forgotten - catalogs of films for the Singapore and Malaysian audience.

And now audiences in Paris are getting a chance to see some of them.  The Centre Pompidou is hosting a lengthy series of Malaysian and Singaporean films and programmer Jeremy Segay has made sure to include a whopping fifteen of these forgotten gems in the program, among them the first incarnation of the popular Oily Man and "Singapore's Own James Bond" with Gerak Kilat

We've got a pair of Gerak Kilat stills plus the opening scene from the film below and hit the link for more details on the program.

WOW!

I've saw few of Jerfi Zain's movie as a kid, Gerak Kilat (loose translation= "Lightning Move"), Jurang Bahaya (Deadly Ravine), Bayangan Ajal (Death Shadow).

Jefri Zain = James Bond

Jins Shamsuddin=Sean Connery, even their face looks alike.
