I'm looking forward to this too, with a little caution, but a lot of optimism.
We have come a long way in the department of special effects, that's for damn sure. I just looked up the director for this remake and he was also behind the latest incarnation of the Incredible Hulk.
More importantly, he was also behind Danny The Dog (or Unleashed, depending on where you are) which is probably the best thing Jet Li has ever done outside of Asia.
I have a HUGE soft spot for the original, it was an awesome film to experience as a kid, so when I read the plans for the remake I was definitely skeptical.
But, that said, it looks like they are hitting all the right notes of the original's spirit, all the while giving it a heavy injection of testosterone. I'm pretty jazzed for it. Big, bombastic and ridiculous! Just like the original! I'm looking forward to it!
Haven't seen the original since I was in elementary school. But I think I've seen everything Leterrier's done, and I've liked it all, so I'm looking forward to this.
