The official trailer for next year's block buster Prince of Persia: Sands of Time was put online today and the thing looks...big, very big.
It sports an all star cast, Jake Gyllenhaal, Ben Kingsley and is directed by Mike Newell and produced by uber producer Jerry Bruckheimer.
Now I'm hard pressed to remember a good video game adaption and I think this is probably the most expensive one to date as well but if Bruckheimer could produce a trilogy of massively popular films based on a ride then I'm sure he can lure people in with Jake's massive pecks.
My only interest in this is seeing my friend Gisli Orn Gardarsson as one of the main villains in a huge film like this (he's the one who says "It's time." in the trailer). A few of you here might recognize him from much smaller films like Children and Parents.
Anyway. The trailer is embedded below.

hmmmmm, we shall see. I felt the same way about Pirates when i saw the trailer, then I saw the movie and Depp knocked it out of the park. so who knows, this could turn out to be another franchise.
this looks quite fantastic! mike newell is a marvelous director too, so i certainly have high hopes
Obviously this film is based on the PS2 incarnations of the series, but I can't stop thinking about how it would be cooler for the films to be based on the original games and employ a real-time conceit.
I suppose that doesn't lend itself very well to Bruckheimer speed-ramping as much as incorporating time manipulation as a plot device.
Wow, those arabian fairy tale settings are great. Jake might be the next Jack Sparrow, he might just have enough personality to make this work. If its not too goofy. Looks less goofy than the last Indiana Jones at least. And a lot more exiting.
The trailer cetainly looks pretty damn promising, but I still need more time to wrap my head around the fact that there are a whole lot of white people speaking with British accents in ancient Persia. I guess Bruckheimer's idea of 'exotic' is a British accent...
Wax, the game seems to be taking most of the plot from #1 plus bits and pieces from #2 and #3 so to be fair to Bruckheimer for once, the Prince in the first trilogy of games - it's a different character in the most recent title - pretty much does speak with a cultured, vaguely British accent. Of course, you're probably still right about it being his conception of exotic. ;-)
As a fan, I'm cautiously optimistic. At the very least it doesn't look awful. The money seems to be up on screen, they seem to be using a lot of the original plot, they seem to have made some attempt to mirror the atmosphere of the games. (Even if the female lead is pushing it a little with that impeccable enunciation.) I'm not holding my breath exactly but on the strength of this I'll certainly go and see it whenever I get the chance.
It's odd, because even though the trailer features a ton of voice-over plot detail and even though my fiance has played these games with me in the room, I was completely LOST. Some of it looks pretty, but everyone seems just wrong for the roles. It's only a trailer, but I'm not turned on.
i m extincted about to know that this movie has come very soon.i like action movies.
On the current videogame prince - Nolan North deserves to be on the big screen for sure, but probably not for this film, no. :D
This combines All the worst things about the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise with all the worst things in the Mummy Franchise. And it's got hammy Kingsley in it to boot.
Er....Pass.
I'll pass as well and just play the game again. Looks the be pretty miserable
I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around a buffed-up Jake Gyllenhaal as a romantic action-hero. I'm afraid I'll just have to see this one with my own two eyes.
This is not what I have expected.
I don't feel the magic of Arabian Tales here nor the magic of the original game.
craptacular
I really hope this lives up to the games
