By now we have all at least heard of the phenom that is Oren Peli's PARANORMAL ACTIVITY. Love it, hate it, it doesn't matter. Director Oren Peli has rocked the film world and movie goers with his little-film-that-could. So with all eyes on him, somehow Peli managed to shoot his follow up AREA 51 with little to no scrutiny.
It's another "found footage" film, centering on three teenagers who infiltrate the infamous AREA 51 complex and find way more than they were bargaining for. I love conspiracy theories and aliens, so color me intrigued. With PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, Mr. Peli was merely a film fan who wanted to see if he could pull something off himself, and with 11,000 dollars spent, took the bull by the horns and ended up pulling a monstrous rabbit out of the hat. Some early help from great word of mouth after it's Screamfest LA debut, and with the cheerleading of Uncle Creepy over at Dread Central dot com in particular, it easily became the biggest cinematic Cinderella story of the last 10 years. PARANORMAL ACTIVITY now stands as one of the most profitable films in history. But will lightening strike twice? Can a fledgling, and talented, but for all intents and purposes amateur filmmaker, pull two rabbits out of what is basically the same hat? Can Peli avoid the sophomore slump? We'll see.
Strangely, I haven't heard of one set visit, any casting news, nothing. But apparently AREA 51 finished principle photography somewhere around three weeks ago. I have no word on how long post-production will take, or how FX laden it will be. Here's hoping Peli delivers a kick ass take on the AREA 51 conspiracy mythos. I enjoyed PARANORMAL ACTIVITY, and I know his heart is in the right place as far as wanting to give movie goers a wild and fun ride. Bring it on Oren, I'm pulling for ya!

Hahaha, another found footage film. Wouldn't really surprise me if it was already filmed, can't see it taking too long devising and actually producing.
This certainly came out of the blue... Looking forward to it!
