Director Adam Green, who burst onto the horror scene in a big big way back in 2006 with his homage to practical FX and 80's style horror with HATCHET has announced that a sequel is indeed officially on the way.
Green recently completed the Hitchcockian psychological suspense thriller FROZEN, which see's a theatrical release next year in February from the fine folks at Anchor Bay, and is ready to get bloody once again. Apparently, HATCHET 2 will pick up from literally the second the first film ends, ala HALLOWEEN 2 (not the Rob Zombie abortion, but the original) and flesh out some of the backstory.
Tony Todd is expected to return, reprising and expanding his role of Rev. Zombie, and of course the inimitable Kane Hodder will be returning as the swamp stalking, twisted and malformed behemoth that horror geeks have come to know and love as Victor Crowley. Green promises to retain some of the humorous edge of the first istallment, while upping the ante on the scares and blood the second time around. That's saying a lot, as the initial film had some of the most inventive kills this old school gorehound has ever seen.
Color me crimson with excitement, as I had great fun the first time I saw HATCHET, at Screamfest in LA a couple years back. I can't wait to see what he's got in store this time around. Bring it on Mr. Green!
