THE EXPENDABLES Trailer hits Online!

by Al Young, October 13, 2009 4:59 PM

[UPDATE:  Sorry folks but it seems the video was not meant for the public.  It has been removed from our Twitch player at the request of Lions Gate.]

To say I'm stoked for Sylvester Stallone's ensemble actioner The Expendables is a gross understatement. With a who's who of badass action heroes in the cast line-up and the return of 80's style action goodness, its without question my most anticipated film of 2010. It really kills me to wait this long but to hold us over, a promo video (the exact one shown at the Venice Film Festival) has been leaked on youtube. Get ready for some balls-to-the-wall explosions and mayhem. Oh hell yeah!

THE EXPENDABLES is a hard-hitting action/thriller about a group of mercenaries hired to infiltrate a South American country and overthrow its ruthless dictator. Once the mission begins, the men realize things aren't quite as they appear, finding themselves caught in a dangerous web of deceit and betrayal. With their mission thwarted and an innocent life in danger, the men struggle with an even tougher challenge - one that threatens to destroy this band of brothers.

Barney Ross (Sylvester Stallone) is a man with nothing to lose. Fearless and void of emotion, he is the leader, the sage and the strategist of this tight-knit band of men who live on the fringe. His only attachment is to his pickup truck, his seaplane and his team of loyal modern-day warriors. His is a true cynic who describes what he does as "removing those hard to get at stains." The team behind him is made up of Lee Christmas (Jason Statham), former SAS and a savant with anything that has a blade; Yin Yang (Jet Li), a master at close-quarter combat; Hale Caesar (Terry Crews), who has known Barney for ten years and is a long-barrel weapons specialist; Toll Road (Randy Couture), a skilled demolitions expert and considered the intellect of the group; and Gunnar Jensen (Dolph Lundgren), a combat veteran and an expert in precision sniping who struggles with his own demons.

When the mysterious Church offers Barney a job no one else would take, Barney and his team embark on what appears to be a routine mission: overthrow General Gaza (David Zayas), the murderous dictator of the small island country of Vilena and end the years of death and destruction inflicted on its people. On a reconnaissance mission to Vilena, Barney and Christmas meet their contact Sandra (Giselle Itie), a local freedom-fighter with a dark secret. They also come to learn who their true enemy is: rogue ex-CIA operative James Monroe (Eric Roberts) and his henchman Paine (Steve Austin). When things go terribly wrong, Barney and Christmas are forced to leave Sandra behind, essentially giving her a death sentence. Haunted by this failure, Barney convinces the team to return to Vilena to rescue the hostage and finish the job he started. And to perhaps save a soul: his own.
In theaters on August 20th, 2010. You'll find the trailer embedded below.

No. This is like a bad dream. Give me a proper trailer now.

Yeah... on the one hand I actually quite liked that. Pretty confident I'll enjoy the film.

On the other hand, as a trailer, it's terrible.

"This video is no longer available due to a copyright claim by Lionsgate."

Lots of Fun' n' Action as expected.
But true, the trailer is not exactly out for tension or building up a story.

This is by far the most brilliant thing I ever longed to watch! This lineup breaks any limit of anticipation ;) Not that it supposed to be a remarkable movie, but only the fact that these legends (Li and statham are on the verge of getting there) of merciless action films are part of it! Hell yeah!

Cool trailer.

That trailer brought me back to when I was a young lad in the 90's asking my dad to take me to the local mom and pop video store to rent me those rated r action video tapes.. Jet li vs Dolph is match made dream cum true!!!

user-pic

did Stallone make it look so cheap just to recapture that eighties feel? Or did he just not have the cash to hire a real cinematographer and some professional designers? Never mind, I love the cast, great to see Dolph back in the almost major league-cast him as Judge Dredd already!
And the brazilian femme is smoking!!

zzzzzz.... You'd think Jet Li's English would have gotten better by now... I guess I was never that into generic, disposable straight to video action films. Everything in this trailer was ugly, lazy, and boring. Apart from the big name cast ( cool, but so what if the film sucks), it looks on par with any Delta Force film. Anyone really, honestly even liked those films? Or is the nostalgia for them based on irony? The one liners aren't clever, or so bad they're funny, they're just boring.

Shame Adkins couldn't be part of it! But its good to see that Sly is gonna deliver the goods...what a roster of personalties!! great stuff!!

Fhoom - shut the fuck up, what exactly do you know about cinematography??

@ agent 666

fhoom has right, it looks like Direct To DVD.
I suppose they didn't do the color correction for the trailer.
And btw, actually you never know, maybe fhoom is indeed a DOP.
