Switzerland Gets Nasty With Hard Edged Cop Thriller VERSO

What the hell is happening in Switzerland?  Never a huge player in the international film scene in general, much less the genre film scene, Swiss director Ivan Engler has been turning heads recently with his scifi effort Cargo.  And now, hot on the heels of that picture comes Verso, a gritty crime thriller from writer-director Xavier Ruiz.

The story is a familiar one - hot headed cop, self destructed family, alienated teen daughter, etc etc - but they keep making these films because when done well we keep on loving them.  And from the looks of the trailer for this one there's a whole lot to love.  Ruiz embraces a blend of slick style and hard edged grit that makes it immediately gripping on a visual level and it looks to have a visceral approach to its content to match.

There are two versions of this trailer out there - a German version and a French, embracing two of Switzerland's three official languages - and we've got the French below.  No real difference between them, just the language of the dub.

This looks really good.

Looks like my old home of Geneva in the opening shots there, which would be very cool indeed. I spent a LOT of my time as a teenager and young adult there imagining a decent cop thriller shot there....
