Even if you didn't grow up watching stuff like In Search Of.... there's no escaping the nostalgic wonderment shows like this provide. At their heart they carry on the tradition of P.T. Barnum and Robert Ripley of Ripley's Believe It Or Not by reminding us all that the more interest we take in the world around us the more fascinating and marvelous it is and the more questions there are to ask. Watching them is literally like seeing the world through the eyes of a child. A gift like that makes it easy to forgive the tendency such shows have to be a litle too wide-eyed and uncritical about their subject matter. The history channel has always been good at achieving similar effect by coming at this stuff from the opposite angle; examining the real life history and science behind myths, urban legends and monsters.
Monster Quest Season Two examines well known phenomena like the Bigfoot, vampirs and the Chupacabra but also goes after the lesser known regional stuff, dishing thru sightings of things like the Mega Hog, the Boneless Horror, giant killer snakes and spiders, and the Ohio Grassman. There aren't a lot of special features here, just some additional footage. But you get all twenty episodes on 5 discs
