You know ... I was intending to ignore the news of an in-production sequel to Showgirls - arguably one of the worst films of my lifetime. I really was. It's not the first time that talk of this has surfaced and really, I just don't much care. But yes, this time it appears to be true with German writer-director Marc Vorlander's Showgirls: The Story Of Hope shooting now in Frankfurt with a story built around a minor character from the original. Even being true wouldn't have been enough to make me bite, though. What did it? I stumbled across the official website which features one of the most hysterically incompetent and self congratulatory PR videos I've ever come across. And suddenly I'm wondering if this is all an elaborate hoax, if Vorlander is tipping his hat to all the 'so-bad-its-good' fans of the original, or if he really is this bad a film maker.

The first Showgirls movie wouldn't even scratch the bottom of my top 100 list of worse films i have ever seen. Yes, it's a lousy movie, but it's really no different than any number of softcore movies that appear late night on cable. The backlash that it got from the press was mostly a circle-jerk exercise between critics, striptease with Demi Moore was far worse and it didn't got that much hate.
Almost too awesome. THE WAITING IS OVER!
Earthquakes. Tsunamis. Flash floods. Tropical Storms. Influenza. WHY, GOD? WHY? Hasn't the world suffered enough?!
First off, Ving Rhames and Burt Reynolds are pretty damn funny in Strip Tease.
Second, oh yes, when this was being marketed originally in the 1990s it was given the serious 'oscar bait' type full prestige marketing. That the final product was what it was, made it extra kind of awesome.
That sequel reel surely cannot be serious. So damn tedious.....
