Canadian enfant terrible Bruce LaBruce has made a career out of shocking those who consider themselves too jaded to be shocked. Bizarre, excessive and frequently sexually explicit, LaBruce realized early in his career that maybe charting a career path similar to the pinku and roman porno directors in Japan was the way to go. Give investors and distributors enough skin per minute, he figured, and he'd be left free to do whatever else he wanted thematically. And he was right. He's done gay terrorism. He's done gay neo-Nazis. And - in perhaps his most successful assault on the mainstream in terms of recognition and, if you'll pardon the crass pun, penetration - he's done gay zombies.
LaBruce's previous feature Otto; Or, Up With Dead People blazed a sexually explicit, undead trail around the globe. The film would eventually screen at more than one hundred and fifty festivals, leaving patrons either in awe or in shock or, in some cases, rather angered. But regardless of individual responses, LaBruce was so taken with the experience that he was heard proudly proclaiming that "zombie porn is the wave of the future." And now, to prove himself correct, he's back with a second gay zombie opus.
Starring adult film performer Francois Sagat, LA Zombie aims to prove that while American zombies may be just as gay as German ones but they're definitely more buff, more patriotic and a little more grisly. And, also, they're in need of serious dental care.
We've got the first look anywhere at the trailer of this one down below. Yes, it includes a penis, so be aware of where you are while watching but beyond the fact that the penis exists, it's really not sexually explicit.

More like a music video then a trailer but still looks zany. I wouldn't expect less from him thou.
Looks terrible. When did Twitch start reporting on gay porn?
I see LaBruce in exactly the same way I see any number of Japanese pinku directors - that being a genre we've covered since day one. Considering that pinku produced Kurosawa, Nakata and the most recent foreign film Oscar winner and that LaBruce has screened his films in Venice, Berlin, Toronto and stacks of other festivals I think he's totally relevant.
I just don't, in any way, see the comparison. Comparing this guy to the likes of Kurosawa is just bewildering to me. It's as if you're saying one day LaBruce will be regarded as a master of cinema. There's nothing in this work that seems masterful, there's no technique, no genius. Even the sleaziest of Teruo Ishii's work shows a startling amount of artistry.
Perhaps we shall agree to disagree here. I wasn't even going to comment after watching the "trailer," but the fact that it looked so bad, coupled with the comparison to anything Japanese-cinema related...it just left me kind of gobsmacked.
Yes, I know it's an exclusive look at the movie, but you guys don't have to hype everything up and kiss director's asses all the time. And not every genre picture coming out looks good.
Well, it may very well just be a matter of taste, but when your films are played in the largest and most prestigious festivals in the world, you've clearly got something going on. And LaBruce's are. Not all of them, for sure, but a good number of his films have played the biggest of the a-list fests, and the comparison to the pinku approach comes straight from things he's said about why he finances his films the way he does. He's doing exactly what the pinku guys do in terms of throwing the distribs what they want and then turning around and doing something philosophically much more complex.
ummmm, ok. lol, watching that trailer was like having to eat brussel sprouts when i was a kid. I just wanted it to be over already.
