We are big fans of Vietnamese-American martial artist Johnny Tri Nguyen in these parts and not just because he's one of only two men in the world who can claim to have fought both Jet Li and Tony Jaa. No, after years of playing a support role in productions big and small - Nguyen is the primary stunt man for the first two Spider-Man films and it really doesn't get much bigger than being the guy in the Spidey-suit - Nguyen decided it was time to do his own thing and, a couple years back, packed his bags and headed to Vietnam where he wrote, produced and starred in stellar Vietnamese martial arts picture The Rebel, with the lovely Veronica Ngo as his romantic interest.
And now the pair are back on screen together again. Their latest effort is titled simply Clash - Bay Rong in Vietnamese. This time around the action is moved into a contemporary setting with the pair starring in a sort of Vietnamese spin on Mr And Mrs Smith. Which means not just martial arts but guns. Lots of them.
The release plan for Clash is two fold. The Vietnamese version - tailored to suit local censorship laws - will release in December. Once that release is sorted the producers will then complete a longer and bloodier international version to unleash on the rest of the world. And with the Vietnamese release so soon the first trailer has just arrived. Very tasty.

Kind of generic, but nothing bad stands out and I really enjoyed The Rebel so I'm still looking forward to this regardless.
Did their first film have a domestic and an international cut or are they just ramping up the violence here?
I like the look for this! Christmas is shaping up nicely for Asian flicks!
looking good.
Looks rad. Yeah, I just said "rad".
Sigh. All these great films that won't be released where I live make me feel sad. I enjoyed The Rebel, and Clash looks set to up the ante even more.
rebel was very much "inspired" by house of flying daggers but that didn't cheapen the movie one bit. as for mr. & mrs. smith; they will probably do a better one than that. but i don't reckon they can surpass the rebel.
Looks interessting to me, I guess, I'll give it a try.
