[Fresh off of a sold-out screening at Fantastic Fest 09 we now have a MUCH higher quality version of the trailer for Russian anime First Squad.]It was almost half a year ago when we got the first teaser of Russian language anime Первый отряд (First Squad), with animation handled by Japan's Studio 4C. Now we have the first proper trailer.
It is 1942. The Red Army is putting up a violent and effective resistance against the German invaders. 14 year-old Nadya is a medium. In a deadly air raid the girl is shell-shocked. Recovering from her concussion, Nadya discovers her new gift - the ability to foresee the "Moments of Truth" - the most critical moments of future combat encounters, in which one person's actions will decide the outcome one way or the other.
Nadya's ability is indispensable for the classified 6th Division of the Russian Military Intelligence, which is waging a secret war against the "Ahnenerbe" - an occult order within the SS. The Ahnenerbe summons from the realm of the dead the powerful prince of darkness, Baron von Wolff. With him on their side they hope to change the course of history and achieve world domination. To oppose the Baron Nadya decides to enlist the support of her old friends from the beyond - the Pioneers of the First Squad.
The movie will have its North American premiere at Fantastic Fest on Thursday before opening in Russian theaters on 15th October.Video

Animation quality is pretty good, but why does the narrator sound like he is falling asleep? That kind of killed the whole trailer...
Also, some nice breast jiggles on the bustier characters would not have gone amiss...
Minus that narcoleptic narrator, yes, some great stuff. I just have to be patient.
I liked the narration, it seemed to be the voice of the russian suffering, under the nazi attack, weary yet stoic. Don't like the animation style so much, much prefer studio 4c's usual loose abstract style...but the tale looks great.
I thought the animation looked a little boring and washed out. As you guys already pointed out with the narration, the whole trailer felt a bit underwhelming and disappointing to me. Hopefully the actual film is more interesting that the trailer suggests.
breast jiggles.....are you old enough to reach the keyboard ? 'cause then it's hopefully just a phase called puberty
"I liked the narration, it seemed to be the voice of the russian suffering, under the nazi attack, weary yet stoic"
I agree, narration is great. It has a war-weary tone.
Looking forward to this.
anyway, i passed puberty long ago, but i guess i'm still affected by it. jiggle is nice.
Actually it's not a narration, that's an actual speech from the movie. The man in the beginning tells Nadya situation.
This looks good, great animation needless to say. Let's see if the story delivers.
