by Todd Brown, August 4, 2009 3:34 PM

And the wave of jealousy for those of you in the UK begins now. Why? Because Third Window Films have just announced their release dates for Sion Sono's much sought-after and award winning cult film Love Exposure on those shores. The film will hit theater screens October 30th to be followed by a DVD release on January 11th. Those of us here in North America must continue to wait for a local distributor to step up on this one ...

I saw this at Fantasia and it's absolutely great! The soundtrack (and use of music) is amazing and the story is perfect. Can't wait for the DVD...

I'll be watching too (ICA or Raindance)

Well played Third Window that was snappy. I'll be there in my Ghostface mask. These guys are playing for keeps and it's a nice thing to see.

We need a "Fourth" Window here in North America... Fergus, yes the running time is what is making distributors reluctant over here. This could not have been stressed enough at the New York Asian Film Fest where I saw the film.

to be honest i got the dvd of this film in October 2008, but had to wait ages for them to accept my offer for film rights which is why it even took this long to get released. i think because of the high demand at film festivals to screen this film that they kept the asking price high and it took a while for them to lower. Maybe that is why it's taking a US distributor so long? Actually it's a lot harder to release in UK as we have to certify the film with the BBFC who charge by the minute, which for a 4 hour long film will mean approx £2500 UK Pounds just to get a certification!!!

Sounds great:) I would've been perfectly happy just to see the film, but I'm also a sucker for making ofs. Looking forward to it!

If ever a film needed to be on blu-ray this surely is it, partly for the visual quality but mostly so that you don't have to swap discs half way through. However, I heard from Adam at Third Window that making a blu-ray version of a movie necessitates being absolutely certain of high volume sales in order to justify the initial expense.

If only...

I have enquired about costs for blu-ray and also acquired rights for it, so it's a possibility, but it's a super-expensive venture that will probably not pay off looking at recent sales figures.
